Lampards lines himself up for OS critics

|

LampardFrank Lampard jnr has lined himself up for more abuse from the Hammers fans opposed to the Olympic Stadium move.

The former Iron is backing the move but declares that only time will tell whether it will suit them as a team and a club.

Speaking to Sky Sports MNE he said: “I think it’s a good thing. I think the stadium was sitting there, what are you going to do with it? For West Ham it’s local in the area to them, it’s a very West Ham fanbase area.”

The New York City midfielder added: “Moving to a new stadium sounds great, we all know the atmosphere at Upton Park, at times, will help the team massively with how close quarters it is.

“Whether they lose a bit of something there and suffer with that I don’t know, that remains to be seen.

“But for me something had to be done with the stadium and it suits West Ham there.”

He was asked he gave his opinion full stop,as a fan in England at the moment who has not got a season ticket anymore who wishes to take 5 people to a game and sit together,at the moment it is impossible,
But when the new stadium starts with the added capacity it should not be a problem,
Yes I will miss the old ground it has most of my best memories connected to it,but there are thousands that want to have a weekly experience at our club and those dreams could now be realised,
I am sure the great fans at this club will make sure the OS will be a fantastic experience

as 1 of those opposed, i can’t say i see anything wrong in what he has said.
Only time will tell whether the doom merchants such as i will be right or whether those deluded to think we will join Arsenal in the top echelons of football will be.
id go as far to say that it will realistically be 5-8 years before we can judge anything about the stadium and whether it has helped on the pitch

I completely agree with the previous two comments. What has Frank said that is controversial or deserves criticism? It is a reasonable statement. Far worse has been said by others, though it doesn’t receive such a disproportional response. This is a headline used to mislead supporters. Unfortunately, people cherry pick the parts of the story they want rather the reading the full story and weighing up the decision for themselves.

Well the opening paragraph is qualified – ‘…from the Hammers fans opposed to the Olympic Stadium move.’

Not all fans, just those opposed. So it’s a perfectly fair statement.

Sorry probably being a bit thick but can someone explain how this view lines him up for more abuse? Surely this view is also held by a large number of hammers fans too?
