Lanzini gets World Cup call

Manu Lanzini is on his way to the World Cup with Argentina’s having been named in the nation’s final 23-man squad.

West Ham’s official site reports: “The 25-year-old has made three appearances for the Argentinian side since his debut last year, scoring his first goal for his nation in a 2-0 win over Italy in March. ”

And the midfielder’s performance level has been enough for Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli, to include him in his plans for the summer tournament.

Argentina have been drawn in Group D for this summer’s competition, and  take on Iceland on Saturday 16 June, Croatia on June 21, and Nigeria in their group closer on June 26.

Lanzini played 29 times in all competitions for West Ham this season, scoring five goals and providing nine assists, including two excellent finishes in our final match of the season at home to Everton.

  1. I notice Lanzini got picked but top inter scorer icardi didnt make the squad. Which means his value might just have gone down. Would be a good buy if available. Maybe a deal could be done at same time as talks over Jao Mario. Icardi would improve his chances of playing for Argentina if he played in premier league so a good deal all round.

  2. Lanzini invariably gets injured whilst on international duty. Pleased for him, concerned for us!

  3. * at tournaments.
