Lanzini injury shocker update

The news just got a whole lot worse for the Hammers this evening when the extent of Manu Lanzini’s injury became known.

The midfielder was stretchered off near the end of the 3-0 defeat by Burnley at Turf Moor and the verdict is is a  fractured collarbone.

We understand that the player will undergo surgery on Monday. It’s a very rare injury among footballers although is common to jump jockeys who are normally off for between four to eight weeks.

The 26 year fell badly on his shoulder late in the second half and it was immediately obvious that he had suffered a an  injury and could  to be sidelined for a time.

The injury is a massive blow to a team whose midfield has been a major problem over the seven matches without a win.

Pablo Fornals got a start this afternoon but was subbed after another hugely lack lustre performance whilst Jack Wilshere was again missing through injury.

  1. Anderson now in central midfield please…

  2. For heaven’s sake Pelle, go to the excellent Academy players, many of whom are proving themselves in the rough & tumble of English soccer @ lower leagues. Bring in Johnson, who has already shown great promise @ senior level, to bring something to the suspect defense. There are many such players raring to go. Why are they consistently ignored when the overpaid “stars” aren’t stepping up to the plate?

    • Agree with you mate, MP has lost the plot and needs to change his thinking, Roberto has no confiedence and making dumb errors

  3. Johnson has been out injured forever the last 6 weeks

  4. Good call David. Although Johnson is injured at the moment there are several good prospects waiting for their chances such as Joe Powell and Nathan Holland. They can’t be any worse.

  5. David Marriot..I think that Ben Johnson is still recovering from injury .but agree if he is fit

  6. David
    You don’t make sense.
    What lower leagues?
It’s the U23 Pl Div 2 hardly the same.
Johnson is injured until after the International break.
However I’ll promote the likes of Cardaso,Powell, Coventry and Holland.
They have a big game coming up against 5th (,LG 2 ,) placed Exeter on Wednesday.
With several of their regulars missing .
    A good guide ahead

  7. Please ban any West Ham player from giving any pathetic excuses.
Shout your gobs off on the pitch
Has Pelli lost respect from the players?

  8. Let’s not forget Lanzini has been dropped because he’s been as bad as the rest of them, so not sure what we will miss for 2 months anyway. He always has a couple of months out each season.
He’s another case of that big new 5 year deal and foot off the pedal, same as Masuaku, Rice, Cresswell….
They may think they don’t but sub consciously they go in comfort zone.
Hugh, what has Ogbonna done? Must have been a big bust up? Just picking up on Nobles comments that he called him out a couple of weeks back.
Have to stop leaking so many goals, so would go to 5 at the back with three CB’s, we can get 2 up top then.
If we don’t change Millwall here we come.

  9. Sad to say but lanzini won’t be missed that much as he hasn’t shown the form he had before the injury which kept him out of most of the last season.
The way this season is going it seems to me there are a lot of similarites to bilic’s last season
.Pellergrini in his post match interviews is not giving me a lot of confidence. He said “the result was more concerning than the performance”….really! The performance was shocking from the carp roberto to the rest.
We will probably go out all guns blazing against tottenham and everyone will think crisis over but that will be just papering over the cracks.

  10. I wish Manu a speedy recovery and hope to see him back this season. With our thin squad any injury is a miss. I really dont believe this thing about players relaxing because they have a new contract – and I believe that one of the skills of a goof manager is to get the best out of his players
