Lanzini likes his new deep lying role

Manuel Lanzini’s preparations for the 2021/22 campaign have included taking on a slightly different role in the West Ham midfield.

Just as at Celtic last weekend, the Argentinian lined up at Brentford in a deeper-lying midfield role, this time partnering Conor Coventry as his team secured a 1-0 win at the Premier League new boys.

Speaking to West Ham TV Lanzini said “For me personally it’s good. I’m feeling very well, it’s a new position for me but I like it. I like it because I get more touches of the ball and can help the team keep possession. It’s good to start to play, to get the minutes and I feel like I’m ready for the new season.”

David Moyes is said to think Manuel Lanzini can play a big role for the squad this coming season and the Argentinan is no longer on the market and surplus to requirements.

Manu had a great game for the Hammers at Brentford yesterday before he was replaced by Fredericks Alves with a change of formation and he will be hoping he gets many more minutes on the pitch this season with the prospect of Europa League football.

  1. He might like it, but hopefully we don’t ever have to have to rely on it in EPL or Europa League games this season. Time for Lanzini to move on, in my view.

  2. He doesn’t have a choice. No one else to cover rice and Tomas. Connor will go on loan and moves ain’t up to it

  3. He did reasonably well in that position when Rice was out and that was with minimal preparation. More versatile than given credit for and will do nicely in Europa.
