Manu Lanzini’s knee problem will today be examined by Gary Lewin’s medical staff after the midfielder’s return from the Argentine yesterday.
The player was eventually forced to travel to South America at the insistence of his international bosses who wanted to check out that the injury was “real.”
It recalls the days when Diafra Sakho was forced through the same routine by Senegal where treatment of his back claim exacerbated his back problem.
Lanzini’s persistent knee injury will now be looked at by the Hammers staff after a scan in South America is suggested may have shown there was liquid on his knee. However, that will be checked out by Lewin and his team.
He hasn’t been ruled out of Monday night’s match entirely but his involvement is described as very unlikely.
Hope are still relatively high that Andy Carroll will be on the bench and ready to play some part having “overcome” his problems with a recurring thigh problem.

Depleted squad yes but the players gone would not have been any help to improving our squad to become a stronger challenger for the top six. We had a good start with the ones brought in but without doubt needed a top centre back creative mid fielder and a strong defensive one. Coupled with those three we have good young boys to blood as well but obviously the two davids are not just stupid in football terms but only want to save more cash as the sporting debacle now shows us and they are cowards that cant decide whether to stick or twist with slav. Personally i think if slav wasnt worried about his friends and coaches aldo losing their jobs too he would walk away as his a decent perso something this board and tory girl brady certainly are not.
