“Last Men Standing” | West Ham & Spurs Toney’s Only Options

West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be the last two clubs left standing in the transfer race for Brentford’s striker Ivan Toney.

The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea are all believed to have withdrawn their interest in the England striker, which in turn has forced Brentford to reduce their asking price.

At his peak, Toney was valued by the West London club at £100 million; however, following his suspension from football on betting charges, this asking price dropped to £70 million.

The player himself has publicly stated that he wishes to leave Brentford, but there have been no firm bids or even speculative interest at the quoted price.

As a result, the Bees have dropped their asking price again by another £20 million, meaning any interested parties can sign Toney for £50 million.

Personally, I believe this amount will still be too high and certainly too rich for West Ham United’s taste. The former Peterborough striker will be 29 on his next birthday, would command a hefty wage, and will provide no sell-on value despite his undoubted pedigree.

It’s also hard to imagine someone as astute as Tottenham’s Daniel Levy paying top money for a striker at the wrong end of his career, although they did receive Ā£100 million for Harry Kane last season and have money to spare.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender šŸ˜¬āš’ļø Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

More West Ham moaning is done on a daily basis here šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡

    I would say too expensive as well. However …

    Haller => 45 Million quid
    Scamacca => 35 Million quid
    Ings => 15 Million quid (yes million not three deep sea divers)

    You get what you pay for? Strikers are over-priced and always will be. Could be two birds with one stone though, he could introduce Lucas to a new and more reputable bookmaker šŸ˜‰

    Too expensive for a 29 year old for Spurs IMHO.Especially with that gambling crap that he did.

  • Matt says:

    Toney wanted Man Utd / if he has choice out of us and Spurs when they’re in Europe, it’s an easy choice.

    And another point…..the last decent striker we purchased, that wasn’t at his retirement date, was Frankie Mac…..all the rest had gone beyond sell by dates

  • Flipper says:

    Spent more on that on three. Given away 2 and can’t get rid of the other one. Obviously not WHU supporters reading this……

  • Ian says:

    I’d be very surprised if we spend Ā£50m on any striker.

  • Peter the Dutchman says:

    50m is nothing if you get 20 goals a year for 3-4 years and make Europe every year and go deep into those competitions?
