Latest Antonio update

West Ham are set to face Leeds on Friday and Palace next Wednesday without Mikey Antonio.

The striker is understood to be likely to spending this week training alone as he bids to overcome a new hamstring problem.

Manager David Moyes revealed at his presser ahead of the Manchester United game that he hoped the new problem wasn’t too serious.

However, ClaretandHugh’s understanding is that the player will train alone this week and is more likely to feature on the bench for the game at Stamford Bridge on December 21.

The backroom team are also hoping to play the 30 year old striker in an under 23 match as he looks to add match fitness to his game.

The lads have a game against Peterborough United tomorrow night but it seems more likely he may feature in a game against Everton in Southport on December 14.

It remains to be seen whether the manager will persist with the out of form and out of luck Seb Haller in the two upcoming games or maybe launch Sad Benrahma into the central striker role.

  1. Moyes previously said that it was a problem with his heel which got kicked after about 30 mins v Villa. He also stated that it “was not the same injury”. One of you is wrong

  2. Just wondering if Jarred could play up front? Even if he starts with Seb, brings in Said for Fornals, and if no joy, sub Fornals on for Seb and push Jarred up? Leeds are well organised so his mobility could be an asset.

  3. Well let’s be honest we could all see this was going to happen ,,hence why we needed to buy a striker…he will be out for a while now even longer to get back to match fitness and the way he was playing….I said a month or 2 ago that by not having another striker to call on if Antonio gets injured could turn a fantastic season in to an average one …such a shame ,,,only ourselves to blame as haller is just average at best …

  4. Personally would play Bowen up top and benrahma instead of the overrated fornals . Also I see coufals form dipped and would put Ben Johnson at right back . Hopefully Antonio gets back fit and hungry before Jan and we then get in a striker similar to him that can play unlike haller up top. If a good deal comes in would like to see haller sold with Fred and yarmo and get in some young pacey players . Remembering diop is waiting his turn I wouldn’t bother with centre back but left back is a must even though cresswell and masu form is good. Imo

  5. Even when antonia gets over this injury it’s always in the back of your mind when is the next one coming? He is just injury prone and that is that.
With haller not doing it it’s imperative that we get in another forward in the next transfer window.
