Lawro a broken record

Mark Lawrenson has AGAIN backed West Ham to lose this weekend.

The ex-Liverpool ace has predicted that the Irons would lose in each of the last two weeks, to Wolves and Leicester respectively.

We won both games.

And Lawro has now told BBC Sport that he thinks the Irons will fall to a defeat to Newcastle.

That’s the Newcastle team who are 17th in the Premier League table, just six points clear of the drop zone.

Steve Bruce’s side have been in okay form recently, beating Burnley 2-1 last time out and drawing 2-2 with Spurs the game before that.

However, before that, they went six games without a win, so one has to think that the Irons are the favourites going into the clash as they look to again make a statement in their bid to qualify for the Champions League.

The two sides are currently separated by no fewer than 23 points in the league table.

Nevertheless, Lawrenson said: “Last weekend’s win at Burnley was massive for Newcastle, who now have a bit of breathing space above the bottom three.

“I’m going for a bit of an upset here, partly because I think Newcastle usually pick up points in bursts and also because they also have Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson to come into their starting XI after the impact they made off the bench against the Clarets.

“It has the makings of a decent game, anyhow. West Ham have developed a bit of a habit recently of going 3-0 up and being pegged back, but they held on to beat Leicester last week and will hang on to fourth place for a while longer.

“I am going for the Hammers to lose this time but I am sure they won’t mind – I also thought they would be beaten by the Foxes and, before then Wolves, and I was wrong on both occasions.”

Lawro’s absolutely obvious prediction: 2-0 Newcastle. Yawn.

  1. That’s okay, every time he predicts a loss for us, we always prove him wrong. Keep them coming Lawro 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

  2. Lawrenson talks rubbish always going for Everton and west ham to lose so his beloved red scum can claim a champions league place.

  3. Lawrenson talks rubbish only interested in west ham and Everton losing so his beloved red scum can claim a champions league place.

  4. I have to admit I am a little dissappointed with Mr Lawrenson, 2-0 really could he at least give the ritual standard of 2-1, I reckon that if West Ham were to play Accrington Stanley he would predict a 2-1 win to Accrington (Sorry no disrespect to Accrington Stanley), Why do Ex-Liverpool players have such a negative view of West Ham.

  5. Imagine if we do crash champions league place and all these pundits have to admit it – for this season at least, West Ham are better than Liverpool. Beautiful.

  6. To be fair we do have a pretty poor record at St James Park. We also haven’t beaten Brighton in the Premier League.
