Lawro and Merson predict West Ham win

paul-merson-2Sky Pundit Paul Merson expects a West Ham win on Monday but says he wouldn’t be surprised if Huddersfield walked away with all 3 points!

He told Sky Sports: “Slaven Bilic needs a win. It’s West Ham’s first home game of the season and the fans will be turning up expecting the team to put on a show and beat Huddersfield. I wouldn’t want to be a West Ham player in the first 20 minutes of this match. If they don’t score early doors it could be messy because the frustration will build in the stands.

“You wouldn’t put a penny on West Ham but if they get an early goal it could well turn into an easy night for them. However, if and Huddersfield keep things tight, the more the game goes on the more difficult it becomes for Bilic’s men.

“My heart is going with the Londoners, who have been there before and have home advantage. But they are not playing well and they are up against an in-form side in Huddersfield. I’m just going to go for West Ham but again, I would not be surprised one bit if Huddersfield picked up all three points.”

MarkLawrenson1 BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson is also predicting a large improvement at home for West Ham. “Huddersfield have made a super start to the season, in total contrast to West Ham, who have really struggled,” the 60-year-old told BBC Sport.

Terriers fans will be confident they can keep that good start going, but I don’t see it being as easy as that. This is West Ham’s first home game of the season, and I am expecting a big improvement from them.

“I think Hammers boss Slaven Bilic has to make a big decision about midfielder Mark Noble, however. He is a top professional and has been a brilliant player for them, but does he still warrant a place in their side?

“Based on recent performances, I would have to say no.       Lawro’s predicts a  2-1 win.

Guest predictors NFL Show analysts Osi Umenyiora and Jason Bell predicted a 4-2 win for West Ham on the BBC website.

  1. OT but i have been reading an article on the whuisa meeting. If the best they are going to come up with is trying to get away support a pie voucher for travelling away for four matches on the bounce we are screwed.

I have travelled away for decades and do it out of choice,no one forces me.I have a chap in my row at the OS who travels up from Cornwall every match.Should he get a pie voucher as well.Should fans who travel from Scandinavia or Europe get free flights.Dear lord we are screwed.

Oh and they asked the police how security is going to be at the spurs match and if security is tight at the stadium. No doubt the police replied there will be none and any suicide bomber is free too walk in.Talk about a waste of time.

    • Hi Tim.

The request for a gesture of thanks in the form of anything the club deemed fit was to recognise the dedication our away support gave to the club in a unique sequence of 4 away matches two of which were NOT of their making. It was also designed to reflect gestures other clubs make toward their fans in exceptional circumstances. A reduction in match ticket price, free coach travel or indeed refreshment at half time are not uncommon practices by clubs.

The club refused to acknowledge this situation simply saying you had enough notice so tough. While it is your choice Tim to travel where and when and how you want in the current climate of poor news coming out of the club and the new TV money deal kicking in WHUISA felt the club should have done something positive for the fans and our club.

Further you clearly have not read the details in the report from the Met Police meeting or you would not have made such a crass and unsubstantiated comment as you have done above.

  2. Oh dear, we will have to hope this is the one time they are right 😉
