BBC Pundit Mark Lawrenson predicts final day misery for the Hammers on Sunday as they travel to Turf moor.
Lawro writes on the BBC website:
“Other than their win over Tottenham, West Ham’s season has tailed off in the last few weeks.
Yes, the Hammers are missing some injured players but they have been very average for a while.
When their fans look at this season, it is their new stadium and their summer recruitment that have been the bugbears for them.
For a while it looked like Slaven Bilic’s side were going to get dragged into a relegation skirmish but they are going to get a mid-table finish, which is probably what they deserve.
West Ham are not a bad side when everyone is fit but, if they want a repeat of their seventh-place finish in 2015-16, they definitely need to sign some better players.
Burnley’s target this season was to stay up and they have done it. It is mission accomplished and they can build again, which is great.
Their home form has been the key and I think it helped that they got an ‘extra’ match at Turf Moor early in the season – the venue of their game with Liverpool in August was switched because Anfield was not ready.
They won that game which not only gave them points on the board but it also set the tone for the rest of the campaign. They have never really been under much pressure.
Lawro’s prediction: 2-0
Very average- I will take that as a compliment. I reckon we have been well below average for 80% of the season. But I suppose the league position at the end of the last game is the best judge. Give us something to cheer!
Lol H64 you are definitely not wrong. We know the injuries have been awful but so has the attitude, effort, commitment and tactics in way too many games this season. A lot to try and sort in the summer, especially as our first 3 games of the new season will be all away from home; which actually might be a good thing. Screw marquee signings, build a team like Leicester did!!
Actually the ‘Little Leicester Fairy Tale’ is a bit of a myth isn’t it? They have some big money behind them & did spend pretty big. But take your point JMan- that is what I would like to see. A proper team of committed players, playing as against Spuds. You can still ruffle a few feathers at the top if you play like that.
Leicester actually paid out some big bucks on some players who dont even feature too much. They signed some big money players who have been poop most of the season.Thats why Shakespeare took them back to square one.
They spent £77 million on eleven player this season and only Ndidi is now a regular.
They spent about £45 million on Musa Slimani and Mendy and they rarely play.
It isnt just us who have hit and miss transfer windows.Stoke have their record signing Imbugli or whatever he is called who doesnt play.Boufel at Southampton their big signing who has been poop.Janssen at Spurs.
There is a whole bunch of big money signings who have bombed in the premier league this season.
Yep. Spot on. It is a difficult game for sure. I have a feeling Leicester were under investigation for over spending when in the Championship. Never hear the outcome of these things though. Same as QPR. Football League wants to bury these cases I think. Oh sorry, maybe it is just very thorough! And the QPR case was in the paper this week, but don’t think there was a final decision!
Who gives a damn what that idiot thinks? Him & his job are a total waste of space as far as I am concerned. Money for old rope!
