Lawro’s Wolves prediction

Mark Lawrenson has backed West Ham to beat Wolves this weekend.

The Hammers go into the game knowing that it is a must-win fixture after the club’s poor form in recent weeks.

Indeed, David Moyes’ side have only won one of their last five games in the league and are currently sixth, four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

Wolves were beaten by Arsenal on Thursday, going down 2-1 at the Emirates, but Bruno Lage’s side can move ahead of the Hammers with a win this weekend, as they sit just two points behind the Irons.

And Lawro believes that the Hammers have the ability to pull off a win this weekend and put themselves back in the top-four race.

Speaking in his weekly BBC Sport column, the ex-Liverpool star said: “Wolves are always tough to beat but they played on Thursday at Arsenal, which will help West Ham who have had a full week off to prepare for this.

“The Hammers need a win too, after two draws in a row. Those weren’t bad results in isolation but if they want to maintain their challenge for fourth place, then they can’t afford to drop any more points this weekend.”

He’s predicting a 2-1 win for the Hammers.

West Ham were beaten in the reverse fixture at Molineux earlier this season, going down 1-0 to a Raul Jimenez goal.

  1. I think it’s time to mix things up a bit. We’re too predictable, slow, focused too much on the left and right wings and have too many players who need a kick up the rear.

If playing 4 at the back, I would move Antonio out to the right wing (where he started for us) and move Jarrod into the CF position. It takes the pressure off Antonio, which I think he needs.

We cannot rely on Ryan or Yarmo, sadly. Yarmo is totally disinterested and Ryan, despite his best efforts (and I do believe he’s trying) just isn’t at the standard we need.

I’d consider going to a three at the back, and moving Cressie up a little further, so he can focus on delivery.

A 3-4-2-1 then, with Fab in goal, Zouma, Dawson & Diop at the back with Cressie and Johnson left & right, Rice (defensive) and Soucek (who desperately needs to up his game, offensive) in centre mid with Lanzini and Fornals ahead of them supporting Bowen.

Antonio and Bennie can have a rest and work on their confident & energy levels…

  2. Still say a 1-0 home win A headed Bowen cracker assisted by Fornals
