Leeds Stumble Offers West Ham Hope — But Reality Is Still Grim

West Ham have been handed something of a lifeline following Leeds United’s 1-1 draw away at Brentford.

In a contest dominated by familiar Premier League journeymen, it was Jordan Henderson who opened the scoring for the Bees before Dominic Calvert-Lewin grabbed a late equaliser in a game Leeds really should have won. Daniel Farke’s side were the better team throughout and looked destined for defeat until their pressure finally told in the 82nd minute.

Leeds Point Still Pushes Hammers Deeper

That single point leaves the Yorkshire side three points clear of the Hammers, following West Ham’s damaging 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa. Worse still, both Leeds and Nottingham Forest have now edged further away from the bottom three, increasing the sense of separation.

For West Ham, the task ahead is daunting. With Manchester City away at the Etihad next, points are likely to be hard to come by — and that’s putting it kindly.

Reliance on Favours Says It All

Nuno Espírito Santo will now be hoping Crystal Palace can travel to Elland Road and do West Ham a favour. Because, as uncomfortable as it is to admit, the Hammers are now relying on results elsewhere to keep our Premier League survival hopes alive.

It’s a sobering position to be in — and one that shows just how precarious West Ham’s situation has become.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

There is no hope until the Sullivan regime goes. It is a shockingly badly run club.

I know it doesn’t look good but we have had a difficult run of games, played pretty well in most and been a bit unlucky. I know points on the board are always better but IMO no where near the time to be really worried as there is over half the season left. If we had been playing really badly then granted we should panic but not yet. We will almost certainly lose next week but hopefully things will pick up after that and /hopefully get a few players in, in January. Personally I think we will stay up.

We shouldn’t panic we will lose to City we should lose against this Villa side. We are getting better we need to ditch Paqueta and use the money to reinvest buying consistency rather than a mercurial player that is a liability 9 games out of 10 maybe try and buy White-Gibbs from Forest and Wood weakening them.

  • Phil Baker says:

Even if Nuno performs a miracle and keeps Westham up , the wrong management blue print will see Westham struggle next season and so on and so on . Relegation will result in every good player leaving on the cheap and possible financial disintegration of the club . Because of Sullivan’s incompetence Westham might cease to exist .
