Leeds troubles could mean big bid

West Ham are keeping a very close eye on Leeds United’s relegation battle amid their interest in midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The Hammers made a big bid for the England international in the January transfer window but were rebuffed by the Elland Road outfit.

They have been in utterly dire form and were beaten 6-0 by Liverpool last week before being beaten 4-0 by Spurs at the weekend.

The poor run of results – they also lost 7-0 to Manchester City – has led to Marcelo Bielsa getting the sack.

Jesse Marsch, who previously managed RB Leipzig, is set to come into the dugout to replace the Argentine, and he will have to have an immediate impact; Leeds are 16th in the Premier League table and just two points clear of Burnley having played two more games.

If Leeds are relegated, it is almost certain that the Hammers will go back in with another bid for Phillips, who is seen as a potentially perfect team-mate for Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.

Rice and Phillips worked together brilliantly at Euro 2020 as England reached the final and there is a feeling the pair could replicate that at West Ham.
