Tottenham 1-1 Leeds United in Relegation Crunch Clash
Leeds United have handed West Ham a massive boost this evening by holding Tottenham to a 1-1 draw in north London.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side had fallen behind before Dominic Calvert-Lewin converted from the penalty spot for Daniel Farke’s team late in the second half.
However, the drama was far from over.
Leeds Survive Extraordinary Injury Time
Once again, the footballing gods appeared to be conspiring against West Ham when the fourth official somehow held up a board indicating 13 minutes of added time.
And if that wasn’t enough, the final whistle didn’t actually arrive until more than 15 additional minutes had been played.
By that stage, Leeds had also survived a huge penalty appeal after James Maddison went down inside the box.
West Ham Still Alive
The upshot is that West Ham remain just two points behind Tottenham with two games left to play.
And after the utterly deflating VAR controversy during yesterday’s 1-0 defeat against Arsenal — which many feared had effectively sealed our Premier League fate — this result suddenly breathes life back into the survival battle.
Leeds Restore A Bit Of Faith
Fair play to Leeds United because they never stopped battling.
They played with intensity, honesty and commitment throughout, despite the fact they realistically didn’t need to approach the game with quite that level of desperation.
And in doing so, Daniel Farke’s team restored a little bit of the integrity and belief which, personally, I felt football had been losing over the past couple of weeks.
Thank you Leeds 🙏. Let’s go win the last 2 COYI ⚒
Interestingly in Aus AFL football the clock is on the scoreboard. What’s wrong with the Prem doing the same? Stop the clock for injuries and subs not throw ins or goal kicks or free kicks; refs can book players who take longer than , say 10 seconds, could even have a second clock for this? Who knows who gets at VAR officials?
