West Ham’s Brazilian central defender Luizão has been left out of the squad submitted to the Premier League, despite vacant spots, fuelling speculation he could still leave this summer.
Turkish Super Lig side Eyüpspor were reported to be interested, but the Turkish transfer window closed at midnight last night.
Much of the attention during the window in Turkey had been on Galatasaray’s interest in Hammers’ left-back Emerson, but there was hope that a deal for Luizão could be completed.
The centre-back is now expected to return to the under-21 squad, with Kaelan Casey being used as emergency defensive cover for the senior team. There is some sympathy for the Brazilian youngster, whose transfer to the UK has been largely unsuccessful.
It appears that there is no clear path forward for the 22-year-old, who played 14 times for São Paulo before catching the eye of West Ham scouts.
