Legend Devonshire: “Irons to beat City”

DevAlan Devonshire is part of Irons folklore …in some people’s opinion the greatest midfielder to set foot on the hallowed turf of the Boleyn and ClaretandHugh has him right at the top of its list

Here the great man makes his bow for your top website and reveals his thoughts on the Irons of 2014-15 and says we are are en route to a victory over Manchsester City at the weekend

I’ve never had a problem with Sam Allardyce other than his insistence last season to play one up and two wide men…and the whole difference this campaign are the two boys up front.

I love them both and have said for months that until we play two up we will never be a force. I’m thrilled at what I’m seeing and those who said Sam couldn’t change have been proved conclusively wrong.

It was obvious we had to go this way and whether he was forced to do so by the board is no longer the issue – everybody has worked together and we are seeing a brilliant outcome .

Diafra has been amazing on his first season in the Premier League but I love Valencia too and when Andy Carroll comes back we are gonna be a helluva a force.

And to those who say Carroll can go I’d simply say this: “We need all the best strikers we can get and that boy has a lot to offer. The options we have will be frightening.

And let’s not forget Carlton Cole who looked to be playing with a smile back on his face when he appeared at Burnley.

A lot has been made of the form of Stewart Downing and he really is a decent player but I can’t agree with the assessment that I read – perhaps on here – that he’s the new Dev!

I’m not having that. I’m not sure he dribbles past people as I did in my pomp.

But he has bags of pace and can really pass the ball. He certainly looks good in that diamond so it’s exciting times down at the old Boleyn.

And so we come to this weekend and Manchester City. They have a match in midweek against CSKA so that will help the cause although there’s no pressure on us at all and the way we’re playing gives us a big chance.

I reckon we can spring a surprise, if that’s what you want to call it and we’ll run out 2-1 winner – WHY NOT? WE ARE DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT!

See you on here again soon!
