Piture from the Sun shows the players during their night outi

Every story that comes out of West Ham is bound to have an entirely negative twist put on it right now as we saw in The Sun this morning when the lads were on a night out which would clearly have been sanctioned by the manager.

I’ve seen the pictures, read the words and there is little to justify the suggestion of a champagne fuelled bender which was an  easy headline but some way from the truth I’d suggest.

We had plenty of on field problems in my day and I was involved in such evenings.

We would go out have a meal and talk things through as a squad  – we also tried to speak to fans after games and at meetings – it’s always important to get their views. They can provide great input.

The squad have to come together free of a managerial presence to talk freely about things  and the arguments or discussion can be long and involved. It may well go on beyond midnight so all this stuff about night long benders quite frankly is total rubbish.

Andy Carroll and Darren Randolph need to make sure they become part of a culture where the entire first team squad behave in a way that brings credit to the club..

I think what may be  required right now is a Billy Bonds in the dressing room who would get guys by the throat and have em up against a wall if their heads wren’t  in the right place.

Ths is West Ham and whatever it takes to protect the club’s name needs to be done. End of,  but hey you know what, there’s nothing here that a couple of wins won’t put right.

  1. Nothing wrong with a bit of team building.Someone just needs to teach Carroll how the big & little hands work on a watch & explain to him & Randy that when it gets light after it was dark it is the morning not the full moon coming out.

    • Yep Rick for someone that is accident prone and has trouble recovering, AC should remember that the most important part of recovery whether fit or unfit is proper sleep and rest, fuelling correctly also, we ain’t playing in the 70’s anymore when it was ok to turn up to training half cut and team bonding was 10 pints down the dog and duck followed by a ruby and a few more pints… Sort it out AC and Randolph show some common sense !

  2. Leroy’s columns are always worth our time …..I wish he would comment more often
