Leroy puts huge fee on Hammers star

LEROY (1)We were magnificent against Manchester City and should have won. Without that pest Aguero we would have done.

But Saturday evening should have finally convinced the manager and the players that they are now a top six side and the confidence factor has set them up brilliantly for the rest of the season.

We have yet to be beaten by Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool or Chelsea – how long is it since we’ve been able to say such a thing.

Dimitri Payet was the man of the match but Cheik Kouyate had another powerhouse game in the middle of the park – he is an outstanding player and is everything that the very disappointing Yaya Toure was a few years back.

His runs and storming approach to the game had City at full stretch throughout and frankly I believe he is now a £40 million player.

There’s not a club in England or Europe who wouldn’t want the guy in his team. I love him and his approach to the game. He’s brilliant.

He can play in midfield, at the back and if he was asked to, would go and do a job at centre forward. It was a brilliant piece of work by the chairman to bring him in for £7 million.

I will discuss Payet and why I believe he is a Hammer for a good long time in a column later today.

This is the best West Ham squad for years and years and I think we can stop talking about joining the big clubs – we have arrived this season and there’s so much more to come.

If you feel I’m a bit OTT today fair enough. I don’t agree. This really is a great Hammers squad and the sky truly is the limit.

  1. Don’t want a price just NOT FOR SALE put up out side the ground,
We have nearly shifted the dead wood and even if we did not buy another player with the under 21 squad and when our Loanees come back we have a bright future,
Some bedding in time next year for the players and the fans,if like I think it will OS becomes a home fortress we will be on our way now we just need a fair shake from the Refs,
If £40 million is Kouyate price then how much Payet,Valencia,Lanzini,Antonio,Oxford,
Comparing that to our team last year under Slav we have put 1000% price increase in our playing stock,

    • Unfortunately we have a F##K OFF great big sign out side the ground saying
SOLD….due to relocation….!!! Still wish we could have rebuilt the chicken run & somehow made the Boleyn a 55,000 seater stadium.. nxt season will be massive for us, we need to make the OS ours from the word go.. we now have the buds showing of a fantastic squad. Hats off to a our scouts, they have again found another gem in the championship for a bargin price. Cresswell, Antonio & now Byram have saved the club £10m’s

  2. definitely agree to all you said Leroy, adding that Song played like he did in the early part of last season. Lets hope that continues.
Antonio had his best game yet, and would have scored if not pulled down. I wonder why he was taken; perhaps he was showing signs of fatigue.
Even the much maligned Nobes had a tremendous game, linking so well with Payet.
    Yep the sky’s the limit

  3. I agree our first team is definitely good enough and including our options from the bench it is without much doubt the best team we have had for as long as I can remember, Valencia when played through the middle for me looks a greater goal threat than either Sakho or Carroll although all 3 are capable of scoring completely different types of goals so that is great for variety. I would like to see when Sakho is fit for Slav to try a 4 4 2 diamond formation (in a game where we know we are likely to be on the front foot ) as we played at the beginning of last season with Sakho and Valencia up top and Payet at the tip of the diamond, then we would have three huge goal threats and a nightmare for defences.
