West Ham United have dropped their 2023/24 accounts, revealing an eye-catching £270m in revenue—up 14% from the previous year. Much of the boost came from bonuses linked to our European run, alongside a surge in merchandise sales and extra matches.
There’s plenty for Claret & Hugh’s Sean Whetstone to get his teeth into because he loves this stuff, but for now here’s a brief overview.
Matchday income accounted for just £1 in every £6 of the club’s revenue, sparking criticism of the decision to target senior fans and concessions for price hikes, especially given a whopping £167m from broadcast income.
The accounts show an 18% rise in wages to £161m, with the average weekly wage now at £74,800. Despite impressive player sale profits of £96m, underlying losses ballooned by 146% to £30m. Meanwhile, the club splashed out £124m on player purchases, offset by £142m in sales. The figures are heavily boosted by the sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal but it will take a smarter man than me to fully unpick the details.
One revelation unlikely to go down well with fans is the 6% pay rise for the highest-paid director, now earning £1.43m. The unnamed individual is widely thought to be part-time executive vice-chair Karren Brady, whose pay bump comes as ticket price increases and the controversial concession scheme remain hot topics. The news is sure to go down like a lead balloon as protests continue over ticketing.
The Irons currently lead the “Other 14” financial rankings, but Aston Villa or Newcastle could soon overtake them once their figures are released.
It’s a mixed picture, with profit before tax at £57m. However, my understanding is that next years figures will be nowhere near as impressive given lack of European football unless the Hammers can get the £100M being asked for Mohammed Kudus.
Thanks to sixth place finish, seventh place finish, winning the European competition trophy, quarters and semis of Europa league. Brady gets handsomely rewarded. How about Moyes?
Karen Brady is massive!
ITS A GRAND LIFE FOR THAT HANGER ON BRADY.
Half the year on The Apprentice.
Nips into the Lords for loads of dough and free booze.
Scowls at pensioners with crap seats at home games.
Has secret files on shortarse Sullivan to avoid getting sacked.
Jealous crap!
They wont get my money next year Unless they change manager and setup right now that’s for sure
Not nearly as impressive figures next time will impact making the sale of whatever player will realise a high profit far more likely.
This is what I don’t get about the cheapskatery, it’s like spoiling the ship for a hapeth of tar. It costs relatively little to appoint a decent manager compared with being a skinflint and appointing a poor one who sods things up at great cost.
It costs relatively little to pay a bit more for Duran than a bit less on Fullkrug, while Durans value has gone up and Fullkrugs has gone down.
It’s like chasing pennies while losing pounds purely through being tight.
And that folks is why Sullivan and Brady will be going nowhere… they have there cash cow and a trapped audience that will always make it so…..
