Report: Lingard “increasingly likely” to rejoin Irons

|

Lingard an Iron…again?

The usually reliable Evening Standard, Jesse Lingard is set to join West Ham on a free transfer.

I would imagine if that is true, he would be viewed as just a squad player. Opinions have been divided over Lingard, but there is no doubt that on his day he is a very fine player .

But the question must be asked…do we really need him?

Lingard left Nottingham Forest at the end of last season, having struggled to make an impact in his only campaign at the City Ground. He is still yet to find a new club, though has spent some time training with West Ham in recent weeks.

He could be handed a route back into the game by former boss David Moyes though, with the Evening Standard reporting that it is ‘increasingly likely’ Lingard will be offered a short-term contract.

Nevertheless, I hope this does not take our eye off the ball in our hunt for a new striker.

We would have a lot of cover om the attacking midfield side:
Left: Benny, Cornet, Lindgard, Paqueta, Fornals
    Mid: Lingard, Kudus, Paqueta
    Right: Bowen, Kudus

*not saying these are best positions/players, but capable.

Moyes loves him with a stubborn passion so he will likely sign him, especially as he is English (quota). I’m not convinced by him at all, I feel he would get in the way of JW-P and Lucas and he is not a striker, so please sign one as priority, even more so if Ings moves to Everton. A striker must be Tim’s say so, based on Moyes poor record in sourcing and playing strikers, it’s just not his forte.
