Lingard rejected Hammers

West Ham did not make a late push for Jesse Lingard in the transfer window after the player made it clear to the club that he did not want to return to the London Stadium, 90min have confirmed backing up what Claret and Hugh reported last week.

Lingard spent the second half of last season on loan with the Hammers, and he impressed hugely with nine goals in 16 games.

It was expected that West Ham would try and take him back for this campaign, either on a permanent deal or on another loan, but their plans altered following Lingard’s decision – which he communicated to joint-chairman David Sullivan and David Moyes personally.

The club did make an approach but changed their plans after learning the deal wouldn’t be happening.

Sources close to the Manchester club claim that Lingard will revisit his situation in January, by which point it will be clear just where does stand at United, and particularly with Solskjaer.  That might come too late for another chance with the Hammers.

  1. I really hope we re not that foolish or desperate, Got better players now.

    • Agree. If Lingard had wanted to come to West Ham this would have been finalised some time ago but he clearly holds out some hope that it will still work out at Manchester United. It seems that his father wants him to stay there also and he is clearly a major influence. More than happy with a younger, and better, Vlašić. Moreover after Lingard’s amazing (and thoroughly enjoyable) start to his loan spell the performances started to be less effective. Also, Vlašić made it clear that he wanted to come to the London Stadium which shows a level of enthusiasm and commitment lacking in Lingard.

  2. His choice , bit the ship would of sailed by them , missed his chance ‘

  3. Good stuff really, as over the years we have missed out on many of our first choice signings only to end up with a better prospect and player. This is one of those occasions where we have a player in Vlasic with that X-Factor who will be an unknown quantity and actually wants to play for West Ham, not to mention he is only 23 yrs old. Sorry Jesse you have made your bed.
