Lingard return makes very little sense

Odd though it may feel there remains a chance that Jesse Lingard could rejoin the Hammers, perhaps on another loan deal.

The 28 year old failed to appear in the United team that won at Wolves yesterday which my or may not be n indication of where his future lies.

He remains very much a David Moyes favourite but with Croatian Nikol Vlasic seemingly set to join the club and Said Benrahma in great form a third like for like player maybe a luxury too far.

However, we understand that David Moyes has been in regular contact with Lingard since the season ended.

And the news comes amid rumours that the two met last night and with Lingard still renting a flat at Canary Wharf a return to the Hammers maybe an option he has decided to keep open.

However, with Moyes having been a Euros consultant it seems he may well have decided on the Croatian during those duties.

And as things stand it would seem to make very little sense given we have seven  midfielders in the first team squad – Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek, Jarrod Bowen, Pablo Fornals,  Andriy Yarmolenko  Said Benrahma, Manu Lanzini, the new lad and Mark Noble, a  tenth seems totally unnecessary..

  1. Will make sense in January, when Benrahma is away for a month or more and we are all crying out for more players. Not sure why we all keep doubting our manager. Hasn’t he earned the right to make decisions without always being called out?

  2. Makes sense if Lanzini is allowed to go to palace.

  3. Assuming we get Vlasic a CDM as cover makes sense or LB cover . COYI ⚒

  4. I’ve been embarrassed too many times already, for me to second guess Moyes. He knows what he’s doing and has football knowledge on a level that l I will NEVER attain in my lifetime.

  5. For me it makes complete sense, we need competition at CF/10 and we need competition in wide positions so brining in Vlasic and Lingard or someone other than Lingard makes complete sense. We cannot have Antonio play all season so a player who can play 9 and also 10 makes complete sense and we cannot expect Bowen or Fornals to play every game out wide so a second attacking option is a must. We need two signing and I like what Moyes is thinking instead of buying an out and out 9 who can play just 9. We need 2 signings as Yarmo is obviously not trusted and Lanzini is a CM now (he is a great option in there to give Rice or Soucek a rest). My ideal signings would be Vlasic and Hlozek and then bring in cover at LB on loan or sign the young scottish player Doig.

  6. Benrahma, Vlasic AND Lingard? …. I strongly suspect with the way Vlasic plays and the shot he has on him, along with his price tag he will be playing as a striker .. why would any of us be surprised going off of Moyes track record of turning midfielders/wingers into strikers ? …. Judging by Vlasic’s highlight videos you could easily mistake him for a striker anyway ! …. COYI ⚒️ #inMoyeswetrust

  7. I will put my tuppence in. Dont think we need Lingard at the mo.January maybe available ?However If i were manu i would keep him . To nme he has as much if not more to offer than Sancho,

    • He’s better than Martial, Fred, Dalot, and James. Sancho flatters to deceive for me. Cavani is past it, Ronaldo is well past his best and won’t be there for long at 36. OGS would be mad to let Jesse go….. but I really hope Moysey can convince him to let him come to us.

  8. My maths aren’t great but I do know we only have one Mark Noble. He is also retiring this season, Yarmalenko is no way a midfield player, and we are desperate for another striker.
Jesse can play anywhere up front, Lanzini can’t neither can Soucek. (Who’s form is dipping, probably due to playing too many games) so Lingard would and hopefully will be a shrewd and exciting signing, either on loan or permanently. It’s a big yes from me especially as Said will be missing for a month at a crucial period.
