One of the more surprising transfer updates yesterday came with Jesse Lingard being linked to a return to West Ham.

The former Hammers loanee is keen to rejoin the Premier League after almost two years in South Korea with FC Seoul, where he scored 19 goals in 67 appearances in all competitions.

The exclusive first emerged on Hammers Chat Patreon yesterday, following conversations with a source very close to the player. This morning, Claret & Hugh have spoken to a source currently involved in a West Ham transfer negotiation, who confirmed:

“Lingard has held talks with West Ham.”

As revealed in yesterday’s Hammers Chat update, Lingard does have one other Premier League suitor. However, we have been informed this morning that West Ham are currently the favourites to secure his signature.

Claret & Hugh are now seeking further clarification on the structure of any potential deal, which at this stage is understood to be a loan move until the end of the season. However, it should be stated that the signing of Lingard has been described as “nowhere near certain”.

Let us know in the poll below whether you’d take lingard on loan for six months.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

Can’t vote on this as I haven’t seen him play. He is 33 and the questions are how is his fitness? Is he strong and quick enough to play in the Premiership? I guess if I had to get off the fence loan would be OK so long as no obligation to buy or sign a contract is inserted.

  • Tony Pezzolesi says:

He messed us about previously and went to Forest. We are not a home for the elderly

  • Sue says:

Definitely not. he jumped ship on us when we gave him a chance. In my opinion no second chances.
I agree lets use the youth

  • Paul Basnett says:

I didn’t think he’d be a good signing the first time but he really was. It’s hard to imagine at 33 he’s going to add the pace and competitiveness we so seriously need though is it?
Did Steve Cooper get rid of him at Forest or was it NES? Presumably not NES as he doesn’t seem to change his mind on a player once he’s decided.
He maybe could do a fill in sub job until the end of the season we have so little quality in the squad it’s possible he could come off the bench and at least hold the ball?
Depressing really though this the kind of player we are considering.

The news gets worse every day 😭

  • Tony Tucker says:

Anyone saying No to a deal with JL are probably the same people that were saying No about CW, he is now our 2nd, SECOND top goalscorer this season

    • Will says:

The big difference is this one had a chance to sign with us. He chose to chase a quick paycheck instead of a club that would have elevated him

  • Phil Baker says:

Dumpster diving again . Lingard has been dumped by a South Korean club and is 33 years old . His speed is gone and so he would be another Ings just sucking out a salary for 2 years or so . Remember how he screwed Moyes on a potential transfer suggesting that Forest showed him ‘ more love ‘ and signing with them causing Westham to panic and sign flaccid Vlasic for 30 million . NO , NO , NO .

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Wonder if the other suitor is David Moyes ?

If wages are ok this might work, we need cover for Summerville and creative players. Lingard ticks those boxes, whether the Korean league has kept him sharp enough is an unknown but as gambles go this is one that would like to see happen.

  • ForReal says:

Absolutely “world-class” and “next level” stuff.

I’m looking forward to Baroness Brady’s condescending and patronising Christmas and New Year message.

After all, it’s a miracle that such a tinpot outfit as us find ourselves in the Premier League against the might of Fulham, Bournemouth, Palace, Brighton, and Brentford. True giants of the game who we can only look up towards.

  • Brad says:

How would it be a loan deal? Thought he was a free agent?

  • Chingford says:

Shore up this season with short loans, No sense spending big with a relegation battle looming, just end up getting journeymen demanding big salaries with no real interest in club or supporters.

  • Diggy says:

Josh Sargent, Adama Traore and now this total nonentity leaves me to ask the question have the board given up and are now preparing for relegation? The first 2 are useless and the latter has treated us with total contempt, have we lost all self respect? If Sulli and the rest think the fans are angry now wait for the backlash when they sign any or all of these players

    • Jeeps says:

      Totally agree.
Second time Moyes chased him he jumped on a plane.
Stuck two fingers up and chased the money.
Usual whu spent to much time chasing non entities.
Will make Sullivan happy another part time freebie.
If they can’t do any better stick to academy players.
In previous article Emmanuel Latte was suggested (very pacy and scoring goals).
Apparently Middlesbrough want £15m and Carrick could do whu a favour.
In answer to your pole question NO Linguard can go to whoever else wants him.

      • FrankieMacsBack says:

Er,neither Latte or Carrick are at Middlesbrough. Indeed,Latte left in the LAST January window and Carricks replacement is actually now at Wolves! You’re way behind with your Championship knowledge.
