Lingard tells how Nobes taught him the West Ham Way

|

Having taken a pop at Mark Noble for him getting the hump at David Moyes describing him as a golden boy, the Manchester United midfielder has revealed how the captain he taught him the dressing room rules.

Noble remains very much a highly influential figure on or off the field at the club and showed Jesse why the Hammers are such a united squad right now.

And despite his previous complaints about the captain, Lingard declared that as a result he was helped a lot whilst he was at the club.

Speaking to  Players’ Tribune, Lingard  has explained how Nobes put him right when he reached for his phone on his way to a and that the long serving Hammer made it clear that didn’t happen at the club.

It was an important moment as it allowed the skipper to explain that the players have actually learned to speak with each other again in a social media world.

Lingard revealed: “I remember on one of my first away games, I was sitting in the back of his car on the way to the airport. It was just me, him and Aaron Cresswell.

“Immediately, I was on my phone. Just automatic, as you do. But he wasn’t having any of it. He turned to me saying, “Whoa, no phones allowed in here! We talk.”

“I was like, “O.K. … fine.”

“On the plane, I would normally whack the headphones on and listen to music, but Nobes and the rest of the guys wouldn’t stand for it.

“It was like that everywhere at West Ham, proper conversations about everything.

“No phones, no social media. No more mm-hmm. If we were having dinner at a hotel, we’d stay down there for ages just talking.

“It helped us bond as a team, and personally, it helped me a lot.”
