Live Hammers TV coverage is a no brainer

TV coverage of all West Ham games – home and away – along with the same for every other club, is now starting to emerge as a serious reality when the current Sky/BT/Amazon involvement comes to an end!

Pricing would be key but the prospect of having crystal clear reception for every game – rather than the sometimes dodgy streams available to those who watch them on pirate TV – would be welcome by many who can’t get to games or even to those who, can as a great back-up service.

With the PL agreeing to a £14.95 charge for games to be shown this season which weren’t in  the original broadcasting schedules the scenario appears to have come a step closer.

And in this short blog ClaretandHugh Facebook follower Tony Duff explains why he believes the development is a “no brainer.”

“I’ve said it for years that fans if pay upwards of £500 for a home season ticket most of the bigger clubs have a capacity of around 40,000 season ticket holders, buying (a home and away on line TV access) including Cups for £300 for example is a no brainer.

I don’t buy into the argument that fans will not go to the game if it’s on TV.  I’m a season ticket holder and even on a cold winters night and the game is on Sky I still go and 90% of the people I know at west ham still go because you can’t beat being there.”

Another CandH follower Michael Miller adds: “It’s been on the cards for a long time that the 3pm Saturday ‘embargo’ has got to go – things are moving slowly towards all games being shown by the Premier League! Sky and BT must be having kittens!

  1. Currently a 24hr Now TV sports pass is £9.99 so I don’t know how they justify the extra fiver???

  2. One thing to think about and perhaps why the “no 3pm games live on TV” rule is in place might be a lot to do with the clubs much lower down the football pyramid then the super rich Premier League clubs.

If you go to watch say for example Billericay Town in the National League South and they are playing at home to Maidenhead let’s say in a 3pm Saturday kick off but now you have the chance to stay home and watch your team live on TV for instance Liverpool, would you still go to the Billericay game? Maybe not..

Those £8-£12 a time losses at the gate for these small local clubs are enormous and if they do decide to allow 3pm Saturday kick offs to be shown live then this may have a real knock on affect for local semi pro football.
