Liverpool 5-1 West Ham

Fabianski:6 Lack of communication as Jota equalised for Liverpool. Smart save on 61 mins. Made a good block on 73 mins but could do nothing as Salah scored the follow-up. Excellent save from MacAlister. Poor for Liverpool’s 4th.

Coufal:4 Struggled to play out of the Liverpool press and was out of position for the Reds equaliser. Far too frequently out of position at right back but it would appear to be a tactical decision. I suspect teams will continue to have an open route to goal in this area of the pitch irrespective of who plays.

Todibo:4 Should have done better with a header on 13 minutes from a good attacking corner. Lost Jota for Liverpool’s second. Horrendous defending late on as he tried to shepherd the ball out for a goal kick. Turned his back for Liverpool’s 5th.

Kilman:5 His header was crucial in the Hammers taking the lead on 21 mins. Should have done better for Jota’s first goal. Wasted a magnificent chance to equalise.

Cresswell:5 Dispossessed within the first 30 seconds. Good deliveries from set-pieces.

Alvarez:6 Called into action early on to rescue Cresswell. Caused panic in the Liverpool defence as he tried to shift the ball from underneath his feet which forced an own goal. Never stopped scrapping away for his team. Stupidly got himself a second yellow at 3-1 down.

Soucek:5 Played in a more conventional midfield role we saw last season under Moyes.

Soler:5 Played a support role and tried to get close to Canny Ings. Had a long shot which forced a corner the sliced a half volley well over.

Bowen:6 Great run in the first half set up a disallowed Hammers goal. Should have done better just before half time with a poor cross. Looked more like his old self.

Summerville:6 Found it hard to get into the game but was unlucky with the offside goal. Unlucky not to score on his weaker foot.

Ings:4 Had the ball in the back of the net but ruled offside, not massively involved.

Liverpool 5-1 West Ham: Ings goal was ruled offside

Substitutes

Paqueta:6 58 min sub for Soucek

Antonio:7 On for Ings. Made an impact with his physicality.

Irving: 77th min sub for Soler

Kudus: on for Bowen.

I have to wonder what actually goes on during “training”. Apart from a few obvious exceptions, these players look like a disinterested gaggle of individuals, team be damned. They should be ashamed of themselves, but they are not. This manager is a clown and the players know it as their apathy speaks volumes. I question why I choose to be insulted by watching.

Be clear – Moyes stayed at least a season longer than he should have done – 4 wins in his last 22 Prem games – (don’t think we have won that many in this 2024 calendar year.) but replacing dog poo with dog poo – produces dog poo no matter how much you try to shine it. Any team with Coufal, Soucek, Cresswell & Fanny Mings in it ain’t winning any games against any Premier League sides (wonder how much you would get this lot on FIFA 24 Career Mode as you couldn’t give this lot away on the open market). Pay the guy off now Sully and give Mark Robson and Kevin Keen a go – can’t be any worse!!

We seem to have learned nothing since Moyes left. Todibo just turning there when he was beaten and responsible for 2 goals, Soufal so far out of position and any decent team can just open us up on that right side. Every time the opposition break it looks like they are going to score yet no-one including the manager is showing any leadership. All he does is scream at the players who are trying to use his “tactics”! So slow in midfield, and the only players who put in a performance were Summerville and Bowen.

For God’s sake we’ve spent £120 million getting the players he wanted. Where is the quality and improvements we were promised as if we carry on like this we will be relegated.

Sorry but plain and simple we are f@@@@ **** whoever we play …..nothing works again..I know its only been 4 games but my god we look worse than last year..things take time but we should be at least competing … but my god we played Liverpool reserves ….every time a team we play against goes at us it looks like they will score …i don’t know what to think anymore…but I do know we are total @@@@ ..and the management looks s@@@@ also at the min ….how many goals have we shipped this season ??? Just awful..so so soft

Lopetegui’s behaviour on the touchline is a disgrace. I commented about this in the half time report, and I won’t repeat myself, but he needs to reconsider how he acts in front of his players. And the officials.

“Give them time” is the average response to this season’s dreadful start. The trouble with “giving them time” is that they get worse game by game. Only Fabianski, Summerville & Bowen came out of this game with any honour; & it wasn’t a great deal of that ! Man C, Villa, Chelsea & Liverpool are much better teams than West Ham, but our performances as a team have been lamentable. Brentford is a “must not lose game” – I have no expectation that we won’t lose it. However, the West Ham Way would make it possible that we will get a result there. I am keeping my fingers crossed. The burning question is, “how much time do they need ?” Because, each performance such as this is making the task harder & harder. Playing without a defence only makes the task harder, of course !

We spend £120M on “better” players and still get hammered! Why are we so easy to play against regardless of who the manager/coach is? I can see a relegation battle looming.

We appear to have replace moyes with the Spanish Sean Dyche.
We look slow in possession (when we manage to actually keep the ball) toothless in attack and lost in defence.
Kilman is not a £40million defender. Tonight proved that mavrapanos is not the problem in defence.
