Another game gone, another opportunity to put points on the board missed as West Ham tried in vain to match the Champions goal for goal. In what was a cup-tie end to end game, full marks for keeping on but in the end, deflection sand defending cost Nuno’s side any chance of competing.
Crysencio Summerville is hot property: The Flying Dutchman has done his World Cup credentials no harm and must surely be heading to the USA this summer. He stood out as the West Ham forward offering pace and genuine goal threat that, bar a splendid save from Allison Becker, would surely have got his name on the score sheet again.
Summerville will have worse games and score more goals:
Hopefully continuing his top form at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night. Let’s not even mention other clubs and the summer transfer window for now.
Axel Disasi is mortal. West Ham’s on loan centre back has had a huge impact since arriving on deadline day but struggled to keep out Liverpool’s forwards. A deflected no fault own goal was all the Chelsea colossus got for his hard work whilst the right side of the Hammers’ defence went AWOL.
And the old set piece trauma returns. Failure to deal with corners and second balls cost West Ham the game. As Nuno said after the game it’s, back to the drawing board:
“Today, all the first three goals came from corner situations. There’s no other way to look at it: admit that we made mistakes and improve for the next one.”
Corners defined the game yesterday, Liverpool scored from theirs whist the Hammers fluffed their own. And that could well end up summing up the season.
I wonder if it would be worth giving Bowen a rest and starting with Traore, if it does not work pull him off.
I think Bowen has had been exhausted to his limit.
We can not expect him to carry the can all the while.
He is playing with a injured foot I have read, it could be doing him more harm than good.
I know he desperately wants to help the team, but a player who is exh is crazy
There’s no positive gloss to put on this. We were beaten heavily at a time when we’ve slowly been closing the points gap on Forest and reducing the goal difference.
Depending on results later this could be an enormous setback. We cannot afford that result.
What a mess this club is in , aside of a couple of players who will be sold there NO assets left. So It has come down to what other clubs do in the relagation stakes, this club will go down , and it wouldn’t surprise me if we drop beyond the championship, ” too good to go down ” why? Yesterday was an opportunity to try and delay the inevitable that’s all ! , Liverpool treated it as a training game and were never in trouble really, yes we have had a “good little run ” but only against average teams , we have been worked out and and to be honest we aren’t that good are we , sorry to sound pessimistic, but ther is a fine line between pessimism and realism, 60 years + supporting the club I love and have never know such a sad outlook.🙏🏻
Bowen is more assured than others in front of goal and team need goals. So, while Pablo is out, perhaps bring Bowen back more centrally beside Taty? I’m not a fan of Traore, but he would be the obvious replacement out on the right, but need a good DM on the right to help out AWB.
Taty would be a no 10 and has the legs to also come into the box to meet and greet crosses. Just a thought.
