Liverpool gets Hammer Mikey so wrong

|

By Hughie Southon

And there was me thinking Scousers have a real sense of humour!

Perhaps they have but they seem to have had a by-pass operation in that area when it comes to Michail Antonio who is known to be a joker and always up for a laugh.

So when the No 9 claimed on his podcast last week that the Hammers were facing a six pointer at Anfield on Sunday and that we could finish above them in the League this season most of us saw a smile cross our faces.

Great chat for the Hammers faithful but tinged with a sense of humour that had us believing that Mikey was merely hyping up our great start to the season.

However a variety of comments from the Liverpool media and now former player John Aldridge appear to suggest that the locals just don’t get him.

Writing in his  Liverpool Echo column yesterday (Mon) Aldridge said: “West Ham, or Michail Antonio in particular, also made the fateful error of giving the opposition a free team talk. You can’t be doing that.

“I did think it was blown out of context a little bit but he’s left himself open there, [it was] very naive to say that.”

I suppose it makes a decent piece to let loose on if you have a column to fill but come on guys was it really worth all the hands up in horror nonsense.

I for one do wish he’d shut up, might be banter but it always seems to come back and bite him and us. Yes the Richarlison one was funny, but there’s a school of thought you don’t slag off fellow professionals. His comments last season, things that should stay in the dressing room. Keep it quiet Mikey and let your football do the talking please
