Liverpool 1-1 West Ham: Carabao Cup Anfield
West Ham began the game with a more orthodox formation compared to their setup against Chelsea at the weekend. The Hammers’ head coach, Julen Lopetegui, rotated his squad, with Aaron Cresswell and Danny Ings making surprising inclusions.
Liverpool started the match by pressing the West Ham defence, quickly forcing a turnover as Cresswell was dispossessed. However, the Hammers appeared solid with two banks of four, and Carlos Soler looked to support Ings whenever possible.
Todibo started the game and should have done better with a header in the 13th minute following a free kick from Cresswell.
West Ham had the ball in the back of the net in the 17th minute after excellent work from Bowen, who released Summerville, only for Danny Ings’ goal to be ruled offside.
The Hammers took the lead in the 21st minute when a Kilman header from a corner tangled under Edson Alvarez’s feet, resulting in an own goal from Quansah.
Liverpool equalised five minutes later with an attack down West Ham’s right side. A scuffed shot caused confusion between Kilman and Fabianski, allowing Jota to head home.
Liverpool had the lion’s share of possession, but the Irons acquitted themselves well in the first 45 minutes.
I can’t even wait for the full match report. Let’s be honest. We did reasonably well up until the silly sending off. Alvarez can be a liability at times, but that not the main issue. The main issue is Lopetegui and his behaviour on the touchline.
Let’s face it. Lopetegui lacks even a modicum of class as he roars and gesticulates in anger throughout the game. What message is he sending to his young players on the pitch? Anger, a yellow card, sarcasm towards the officials. Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. For the whole nation to see live on television. We all want passion from our leader, however, this is too much. He even injured himself throwing a tantrum. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Going forward, this is a worry.
West Ham only needed to play their first team at Liverpool this evening to progress to the next round! Kudos for Ings, Paqueta for Solero, Emerson for Cresswell and Wan- Bisaka for Coufal
