David Gold is looking for all the edges he can get at Liverpool tomorrow as the Irons bid for an incredible treble over Jurgen Klopp’s outfit.
DG explained that he had been hoping the Capital One Cup semi final against Stoke City would go all the way thus leaving the Reds tired and “hopefully mentally drained.”
With extra time and penalties behind them and Leicester City in front of them on Tuesday night it may well be that the Irons have several edges which will be crucial at Anfield.
But of course the law of averages can be ominous in such circumstances although DG said: “We go there in very confident mood – there’ no reason to after the way we’ve been playing.
“There’ also the fact that some players react differently once they reach a Cup Final as Liverpool as done. That creates its own pressure so psychologically we may have an awful lot going for us besides us being in great form on the pitch.
“We will be playing a very strong team I’m sure as we are taking this competition very seriously indeed. It could be a very very big night.”
Jurgen Klopp admitted earlier today that he will bring out the kids for the game and surely if we play to our full potential a fifth round place is there for the taking.
After going undefeated with SO many crucial injuries, I think anything is on the table. On form, and with Bilic in charge, we can take out anyone….
We will still qualify for Europe even in 5th place which is where I now think we will finish as Man U are sticking with Pugnose, and boring football,
Most of the top teams are still in the cup so it will not be a easy route to the final,
I think we need the cup to make this season complete and we can do it with this squad and still maintain our league position,
We just need to out score them as they have the worse defence in the league and Chulker does not improve it,
COYI
There’s a possible 9 points there canchez ! Doable lol. Show some faith , think positive !
Put the gun away and enjoy ?
A few weeks ago whether we won this or not wasn’t such a big deal for me because I reasoned the PL was our best chance of making Europe. I based this on the fact that one loss and you’re out of the cup but not the league.
Since then I have realized that although we are sixth there is a large gap in points between us and the teams we need to catch to qualify and I don’t see us making up that gap against teams like City, Arsenal, Leicester and Even Spurs.
So, now, to me, the cup has become as big, maybe bigger, a priority than the league
I hate it when we go into games thinking they are tired, they are young and all we have to do is show up. That’s how you set yourself up for a fall. Hope Slav doesn’t let the boys fall into that trap. I’m sure he won’t.
Well said: Klopp’s ‘kids’ were brilliant against Exeter, and will be desperate to prove themselves. This is NOT a push-over. We need to carefully dismantle them, rather than just swagger. We all expected to smash Newcastle, and look what happened. I’m sure Bilic is aware and will have a sensible plan…I hope so….
