it would be fair to say that some of West Ham’s recent short term loan signings haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory. The Potter signing of Evan Ferguson proved to be a waste of time and money and as for Manchester City’s wayward midfielder Kalvin Phillips’ spell at East London – the less said the better.
Compared with that unhappy duo, Axel Disasi is a breath of fresh air. far from being a ‘reluctant’ loanee as was claimed on deadline day, the Chelsea colossus has been a rock within West Ham’s defence and has integrated himself so well that few would think him ‘just’ a half-season recruit.
To see him celebrate recent wins is to watch a player who seems both reborn personally and deeply committed to the West Ham cause.
Celebrating like a true Hammer- Axel disasi
Picking themselves up now is crucial for both the team’s mental attitude and the club’s survival hopes, believes the French centre back, quoted extensively on the West Ham web site last night:
“The feeling is very tough, and it’s hard to accept [this defeat] at the moment,” Disasi said. “When we see the amount of times we’ve hit the post today, I don’t think the post was on our side, but that’s the way things go sometimes in football.
Today wasn’t our day, and it’s true that we’re sad, but it’s important that we clear our heads now and step forward, because we still have three games to go.
And in true fighting spirit, Disasi is convinced the battle is far from over:
“There are still games to be played over the weekend, so right now we don’t know where we’re going to be, so we have to stay positive and keep fighting, because we know there is still a lot of work to do”
