London Mayor enjoys West Ham game

|

London Mayor Sadiq Kahn was a VIP guest in the West Ham directors box last night at the London Stadium.

Self-confessed Liverpool fan Khan had previously rejected invitations from West Ham Vice-Chairman Karren Brady to watch West Ham v Liverpool but he agreed to be a guest last night after relations between the Mayor and the club drastically improved.

In November last year, stadium owners E20 which is ultimately funded by the Mayor settled out of court with West Ham getting extra capacity and the stadium owners receiving extra funding.

Last month the Mayor sanctioned the purchase of Stadium operator London Stadium 185 to bring operations and day to day running back in-house. There are also ongoing talks to re-negotiate the UK Athletics contract.

A senior club insider speaking to Claret and Hugh this afternoon said “The Mayor seemed fine” adding that “the relationship between the club and the mayor were much improved”
