Proof that people are fully vaccinated against coronavirus will be required to enter nightclubs and other “crowded venues” like the London Stadium from the autumn. Vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi said proof that people are fully vaccinated against coronavirus will be required for them to be allowed into “crowded venues” from that point.
Until then, COVID passes – which show if you are vaccinated or have tested negative for the virus – will be required, although these are not mandatory for venues to operate.
In the Commons this afternoon, Mr Zahawi said: “By the end of September everyone aged 18 and over will have the chance to receive full vaccination and the additional two weeks for that protection to really take hold. So at that point we plan to make full vaccination a condition of entry to nightclubs and other venues where large crowds gather. Proof of a negative test will no longer be sufficient.”
The Premier League are reported to be launching their own scheme which is likely to complement the government scheme.
The news could mean that London Stadium West Ham home games against Atalanta, Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Manchester United will not need COVID passports but the home game against Premier League newcomers Brentford on Saturday 2nd October will.
That relaxation until October will be subject to an agreement with the London Stadium owners and operators in conjunction with the London Stadium Safety Advisory Group.
What about those amongst us who cannot have the vaccine for a multitude of reasons?
Why are people who I know, who have not been vaccinated remain COVID free, now they potentially face being excluded from match days, yet many who are fully vaccinated are still contracting the virus and spreading it, whilst being given access to crowded spaces? Am I missing something.
I’m really not in favour of a two tiered society where if one of my friends who maybe unvaccinated for whatever reason can’t meet me inside a pub during the winter months.
Just let people decide for themselves, coercion is not congruent to freedom and liberty..
Freedom day?
