London Stadium owners remain coy on costs

London Stadium owners, London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) continue to refuse the reveal the real cost of staging baseball this weekend.

The project which has been previously been labelled as a vanity project for the London Mayor Sadiq Khan and likely to make a loss but the stadium bosses insist it will make a surplus.

A spokesman for the London Stadium told the Daily Mail: ‘This summer’s seat transition will be higher than the £4m last year because of the extra baseball events — although still significantly less than the £11m cost in 2017. The commercial fee and share of food and drink sales for MLB will make a surplus for the Stadium.’

In December, Lyn Garner, chief executive of London Legacy Development Corporation, was asked if staging the event was costing the taxpayer. Garner responded: ‘It is not, no.’

Freedom of information requests submitted by Claret and Hugh in 2018 to find out the costs of hosting baseball at the London Stadium were been rejected on the grounds the two year deal with MLB was highly commercially sensitive.
