London Stadium ready for football

There will be no summer events at the London Stadium over the summer saving the taxpayer millions of pounds.

The former London 2012 Olympic Stadium will be left in  football mode saving over £4m this summer,

Like last summer there will be no athletics or anniversary games, no baseball, rugby or other sports.

There are no music concerts this year either with the Green Day  Hella Mega Tour moved to June 2022.

Last month UK Athletics reached an agreement with the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) to move the Anniversary Games away from the London Stadium because of increased costs arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.

There is no confirmed replacement venue yet, but UK Athletics chief executive Joanna Coates insisted the event will remain in the country.

“Our priority has been to stage the event at the London Stadium,” said Coates.

Unfortunately, that has proven impossible.

“As a result, we have agreed to a settlement that allows us to mitigate losses and invest significant resource into the sport to help our athletes succeed.

“We will now be putting on a world class event at another UK stadium and will be announcing further details in the near future.”

The reality is the stadium saves more money with single-use as a football stadium than its intended multi-use.

The stadium owners have invested in new lower stands with the possibility of safe standing with party decks behind the new stands.

The London Stadium will be available to be hired out for football over the summer.

Wealthy West Ham supporters or companies can hire the London Stadium pitch and facilities for £30,000 including VAT up to 26th June

£30,000 buys you four hours of the London Stadium pitch, match officials and a tournament organiser.

  1. Finally a bit of common sense.

  2. 100% agree, common sense being applied here. Leave the seating in football mode year round and only host events that can utilise that configuration over the summer season.
I like the idea of party decks behind the goals, even better if they are accessible to able and disabled supporters.

In time Is it possible for the Billy Bonds stand and the west side lower be squared off too, it could make an enormous difference to match day atmosphere if we can be closer to pitch side on all four side’s of the stadium!
