London Stadium to get a New Owner

From April 2025 the London Stadium will no longer be owned or operated by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) which will be under new leadership.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has announced he intends to appoint Suki Kalirai as the new LLDC Chair, subject to consideration by the London Assembly. Shazia Hussain has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of LLDC.

E20 Stadium LLP will be transferred to Greater London Authority Holdings Limited, a Greater London Authority GLA subsidiary funded by London taxpayers. The move in theory allows the GLA to explore granting a long lease to West Ham for the London stadium which loses Β£15m in running costs per annum. A long lease would allow West Ham full control and the ability to run and manage the stadium similarly to Manchester City and the Etihad.

E20 Stadium and London Stadium 185 will continue to be run the stadium with CEO Lyn Garner remaining at the helm.

Edit: Whether this will have any impact upon the naming rights in the meantime is not yet clear. If this were handed to West Ham United also, it would have been achieved years ago, and headline sponsors such as Allianz would probably not have chosen Twickenham instead. <Martin>

A long lease. I thought the lease was already 99 years from when it started.

A new long lease as a new leasing body ?

Whatever way it should see me out lol

  • Wiggy says:

So if I read this correctly, CEO Lyn Garner will remain in charge of the stadium until such time as the possibility of a lease being granted to WHU with control to run the stadium. It’s just a structure change in the GLA. Therefore no REAL change, the continued mismanagement, disagreements with the club and persistent overcharging levied on fans. No story there then!

We currently rent the stadium, a lease would give us more control on the stadium. Currently we have to do certain things the way the LLC want it, we can only use for ex amount of days throughout the year. Revenue from other events at the stadium such as concerts, NFL games and catering do not come to us. A lease would see us benefit from all those things. The only issue is the additional expense such as maintenance, security and other running costs.

      • Vic Gray says:

No benefit at all to the fan’s. Just more income for the owners who will continue to fleece the die hards.

Are you lot serious? Its a dusgrace you are allowed to pay this oaktrg amout and still but 40/50 million players while other clubs struggle to run their club .
And yet you are still complaining the owners if West Ham are pocketing the money !

Sadiq is the elected mayor, he has won three elections on the bounce. Like or dislike his policies or politics that is fair. Being critical in the way you have is not cool.

  • B says:

Like or loathe Sadiq Khan, I don’t believe West Ham will get anywhere near owning the London Stadium and doing what we want with it as long as he is the mayor of London.

  • Wayne says:

Basically, it’s a game of chess.

Moving the bits around to make it look good.

The outcome isn’t going to change and if the clubs contract is watertight, it won’t affect us.

  • Hugh Jars says:

Really? Three people to run a building funded by tax payers and costing £15million a year, you having a giraffe 😑😑😑😑

  • DaveB says:

We need to secure a lease that will allow us to make significant changes to the seating layout, our own choice of food and drink concessions, naming rights, etc. Otherwise there’s no point in changing from the current very cheap deal we have.

  • Linda H says:

Hi I would like to raise an issue with the stadium store
Did you know that you can only pay by card and they will not accept cash any more which is taking away our choice of paying by card or paying by cash
So many people are going to miss out especially children
Who do not have cards to pay for merchandise and people who want to pay for merchandise with cash for things Β£20
    Or less
