West Ham will formally announce the appointment of Julen Lopetegui later this week. The 57-year-old Spaniard signed his Hammers contract 12 days ago, but a decision was made to delay the official announcement until after the season ended.

While current manager David Moyes has spent the past two weeks saying his goodbyes to everyone at West Ham, Lopetegui has been busily preparing for next season.

The former Sevilla boss is already in the country, having remained in the UK following his decision to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers at the beginning of this season.

Lopetegui has been working alongside Tim Steidten to identify transfer targets ahead of next season. He has also mobilised his backroom team and even has a detailed itinerary of training for the Hammers squad when they return from summer holidays for pre-season.

The former Spain and Real Madrid boss is believed to have penned a two year contract with an option for a third.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

He was awesome as Spain manager and got 4 consecutive top 4 finishes with Seville. Won a Europa Cup with them. I don’t think the moaning fans look past his Wolves stint.

You’ve got to give someone a chance in anything.

I read an article this morning about the WHU fanbase being split and unhappy with Lopetegui appointment. The same fans split over the stewardship of the club by David Moyes these past four year’s! The few elite manager’s will always choose Champion League club’s and you’ll be damned lucky to find any domestic manager capable of maintaining a place in the PL and also European qualification. Please give Lopetegui at least 6 months before making any judgement and ignore the noise coming from a few supporters who are never happy no matter what happens.

I’ve no doubt lopetegui is a top class manager. The issues Sullivan. Will he give him the funds . And how long until he starts undermining him through the media. It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if we surpass villas achievement next season. But will the vertically challenged one feel threatened. Any other chairman no chance. him who knows .
