Lopetegui Breaks Premier League Record But it Looks Too Late?

61% possession, 31 shots, 10 on target, and nine corners resulted in a 3-1 away defeat to Leicester City, pulling West Ham further into the relegation zone. It marked the most shots West Ham have ever registered in a Premier League game. The Foxes moved up to 15th, now just two points behind the Hammers.

The new manager bounce, something West Ham are yet to experience, worked wonders at the King Power Stadium, where a crowd of 30,947 welcomed Ruud van Nistelrooy with open arms.

It took only two minutes for Jamie Vardy to break the deadlock, while further goals from Bilal El Khannouss and Patson Daka added to Julen Lopetegui’s misery. Niclas Füllkrug nodded home a consolation goal from a West Ham corner, but it was too little, too late.

With just three wins from 12 games and 27 goals conceded in 14 matches, speculation surrounding Lopetegui’s future is mounting. Reports suggest both Edin Terzic and Sergio Conceição have been approached should the board decide to make a managerial change. Graham Potter, part of the evening’s TV commentary team, has also been linked to the job, but it’s believed he is not under consideration.

Jacob Steinberg’s damning post-match summary read:
“West Ham always chasing as they can’t defend. Dressing room unhappy. Man Utd sacked Ten Hag for losing to West Ham in similar circumstances. Lopetegui is the wrong fit.”

A dejected Lopetegui addressed the press, acknowledging the frustrations:
“Football is about goals. It’s a frustrating day, but we must build from this situation. The players want to win for themselves, me, and the club. Each match is very important.”

Whether he will be given the time to turn things around remains to be seen.

There’s a 17 second clip of Jarrod Bowen looking utterly despondent, trudging away from the Leicester end. It completely sums up the feelings around the club right now. I had high hopes, but the team has regressed even the poor displays in the second half of last season. Loppy has failed on a nuclear level. He must go.

Leicester allowed 31 attempts on goal, they were that bad. Most teams would have scored five or six against them, we scored one. We also contrived to defend as a team so poorly again that they had a number of one on ones with Fabianski and scored three.

Leicester will be relegated come the end of the season, we lost a game that teams must take points from, we never went anywhere close.

Sack him, the news needs to come through today that he’s been sacked. Put Noble in charge in the interim along with the academy coaches. We need immediate basic coaching to put the team into a coherent shape for Wolves. The players are good enough, the right ones need to be played not be left on the bench and they need to play a non suicidal shape.

We are an embarrassment, a laughing stock, people are laughing at us. For Gods sake sack him, he has us teetering on the edge of a relegation scrap when we should be nowhere near that.

Spot on John as always 👏

Füllkrug could probably have scored 2/3 if he had been given the 2nd half when Summerville came on!

Silly is a disgrace for sticking to his latest woeful choice to lead our team.

It must be evident even to Sullivan now surely. Nobody but nobody other than Sullivan thought that he was the right appointment in the first place, but I also didn’t think that he could be this bad. It actually takes some doing to be this bad, like what on Earth is the bloke thinking. He needs to be sacked this morning or we will lose against Wolves too.

        • Matt says:

          Get Hoeness asap!

We never wanted JLo! We begrudgingly gave him time but can’t afford to waste time getting rid of him.

Sullivan wise up, this is solely on you!!

          • Alan says:

Sullivan will be choosing the next one also unfortunately.

            WELCOME RAFA!

            • AndyB says:

If he chooses the next coach then we need to choose not to attend.

Let him sit with his missus in his silly hat without the fans so he realises the disconnect is on him!

  • Kenny Irons says:

Just to mention – who was the last manager to say “I trust these players” ?
Avram Grant said it after every defeat – that ended well !!!

  • Kenny Irons says:

    Turn things around ???
The man is a clueless buffoon, never in my life have I wanted West Ham to lose, but if he remains manager ( incredibly) I hope Wolves stuff us on Monday and the 35,000 that turn up leave at half time.
    That should do it !!!

    • Dave says:

Saturday blackouts being lifted around the same time as our shocking demise will see Stadium revenue drop and pubs seeing a boom in profits!

Save our season and your self respect Sullivan!

    • Matt says:

If JLo was an oil tanker he’d have blown the engines and be stuck aimlessly in the ocean!

      Turn things around ffs 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • lee says:

if that Muppet is not gone by the end of today people need to boycott the Wolves game.

    • AndyB says:

Raging against the regime is the only way to enforce change!

If we changed the words from the chant the away fans sung at Leicester from “it’s only 2-0, it’s only 2-0…. How sh*t must you be…it’s only 2-0”

      Instead chant…..

“You gave us JLo, you gave us JLo….how sh*t must you be ….you gave us JLo”

Sullivan is the problem! All boards sack coaches when the fans fury is directed at them. 😡😡😡

Otherwise I agree voting by not going is the only other option available.

    • Bennyboy was says:

Will he won’t he these are the questions that Sullivan needs to answer you can bet your life it will be he won’t act last night was a total disaster JLo can bang on about how he thought we played well and were unlucky luck has nothing to do with it it’s all down to him as he doesn’t have a clue what he is doing if he remains in charge then I agree all us fans should boycott the wolves game maybe a game with only the away fans in attendance will get Sullivan to do what should have been done weeks ago

      • AndyB says:

I’d love to see that on Sky TV!

Wolves singing “more stewards than fans” that would be priceless 🤣🤣🤣

    • Hammeroo says:

Which Muppet are you talking about, Loopy Loppy or Silly Sully?

It’s all The Muppet Show either way!

  • Hammer_Rite says:

    This is what Lopetegui said

With just three wins from their last 12 top-flight games, Hammers fans vented their anger at the manager, but Lopetegui claimed not to have heard.

“I am a coach, I’m not aware of what happened around me,” he said. “I think we had a good match talking about football but talking about the score, no.

“We have to improve to be more effective in the opposite box and improve our consistency. I’m sure we are able to achieve this in the next challenge.

“There are a lot of matches in front of us and a lot of points, a lot of things which will happen. I believe in these players.”

    Unbelievable tosh
I am so frustrated at the moment because i know the little weasel will not sack him anytime soon.

    • John says:

      Maybe if we chant…..

“You choice in hats…..is better than this… it’s got a hammer and a syccle…. your choice in hats is better than this” 🤣🤣🤣

      Or at JLo

      “Sh*t Avram Grant….you’re just a sh*t Avram Grant”

  • Whippethammer says:

    Stats indeed.
FACT is our team cannot defend.
It’s not the personnel, these are not bad players. Therefore there remains only one factor and that is the manager and coaching staff.
We shipped 3 goals to a really dreadfully poor team last night. I don’t care if we had 500 attempts on goal and 95% possession, we let an appallingly poor Leicester team score on 3 occasions and it could well have been more.
A good coaching set up with a proper defensive specialist would have this sorted immediately.
I haven’t a clue what is occurring during all of the ‘hard work’ training sessions but it appears that neither do the players.
We have a really decent squad (albeit with limitations that should have been sorted with the summer recruitment) playing in an appallingly disjointed way.
The most worrying aspect is that through his mangled English, I’m not getting the feeling in any way that the manager even knows what the problems are let alone hiw to begin to correct.
He’s certainly had one effect which is to have stripped any previously evident self-belief and cohesiveness away with whatever ‘methods’ he’s using. Even Kilman last night looked poor. He arrived a decent player from Wolves ffs and is looking increasingly to have been ”Lopeteguied”.
He needs to go and NOW for the sake of our season and long-term future.
Sullivan may be an egotistical a hole, but even he must be able to see that HIS appointment will cost HIM personally millions if the bloke isn’t shifted and a worse case scenario unfolds. That is the bottom line and the only thing in this world that matters to him, so he must know what he needs to do and NOW.

  • Dave says:

Martin Treasure said what needed to be said in the previous post.

Sullivan can’t be trusted with replacing Loppy as he made an appalling job of replacing Moyes.

Tim needs to appoint our next coach 100%

  • Matt says:

Vardy could’ve had 2 goals after 7 minutes!

Stats and records are worthless, it’s performances and points that matter.

End the misery and sack this fraud!

  • SirAlfred says:

Sullivan will not act. Bet your house on it. He has power of veto even if the board are agreed Lopetegui must go.

He will sacrifice more points before admitting he got it wrong on the head coach appointment.

  • Jimmy says:

Time to turn things around????? GET RID NOW!
