Lopetegui Buys Himself Some Time

Saturday brought a rare experience for me in West Ham terms . . . I missed the game entirely. Phew!

The reason was the wedding of my Hammers Chat co-conspirator, Geo, which kicked off at 2 pm, meaning it overlapped slightly with events at The London Stadium. As we left the ceremony and mingled over a few drinks, people were sneakily and nervously checking their phones.

The upshot? We didn’t miss much, and the wedding was far more entertaining. But there were plenty of West Ham fans at the venue, all eager for updates.

While we missed the feel and flow of the game, the stats suggested a fairly even contest, with Everton slightly edging us in attempts on goal. A bore draw and a deserved point for each team, as confirmed by the unimpressed Match of the Day crew when I finally caught the highlights.

Some who joined the wedding reception later had watched the game before arriving. Reports drifted in that Crysencio Summerville was both our best attacker and defender, while Luis Guilherme looked decent enough as a substitute. Someone else filled in the gaps, mentioning Vladimir Coufal’s added spark in attack—but by then, I’d had a few drinks, so I might have imagined it.

The general sentiment seemed to be that it was two poor teams cancelling each other out, a “safe” result that might just keep both managers in their jobs a bit longer. “You were lucky to miss it,” said my mate Tony, while Alan Shearer on the TV grumbled that he’d had to sit through the game twice.

Julen Lopetegui will need to build on this point quickly. A trip to Newcastle after the international break won’t be easy, and the time for settling in and learning his best line-up has passed. Big improvements and points are needed before the Hammers risk falling behind the teams above them.

I wish JLo would buy a one way ✈️ back to 🇪🇸 instead of more time.

We are the team every other club wants to play right now!

It reminds me of the dark days when we used to chant …….

“We all dream of a team of Gary Breens”

Banter club is what we are right now. 🤦‍♂️

Situation is alarming – we all know our team is disjointed, not playing to a plan, ineffective, wide open and not improving. Our manager looks clueless, our players look disillusioned. We are a third into the season and there are definitely not three teams worse than us. So I say, Mr S, this ain’t working, forget worrying about compo and change the manager now.

If Sully had a business outside of football with a Manager in charge that was hurting the brand and ultimately costing millions (league position) he would sack him immediately!

Stop ignoring us fans (the paying Customers) and rescue West Ham before it’s too late!

Everyone needs to relise sully is to tight to sack him so get used to being a second rate team under a second rate owners manager supported the irons 64 years so I’m well used to this format but it still hurts

Yep have to agree with jellied Eel….As we all know ..Apart from Sullivan it seems…its over with this manager.

Football is a business and honouring contracts is a thing of the past im afraid.

We are all guilty of pussy footing around and sitting on our hands…Just a few boos on Saturday and plenty of apathy as we slowly sink in to the abyss week by week.

Wake up!!…If you want to save the season!!!!!…..Make your voices heard …Because thats the only way change is gonna come…..NOW!!!!!

Totally agree the fans need to shout it loud!

I’m sure the travelling army going up to the Newcastle game will vocally give both barrels to JLo at the final whistle when we get battered.

60,000 fans screaming for him to go with the Sky cameras against Arsenal will hopefully be the final nail in his coffin it he makes it until then!

I don’t see any signs of anything improving, only of the situation turning sour. I cannot see any way that Lopetegui is here for more than the short term, it seems plain that he will be gone before too long. So why not bite the bullet and get on with it…

Hi Gonzo, I thought the fact that there was no player ratings on Saturday was due to the fact they were all so low it wasn’t worth showing. Now we understand.
As one of the previous poster says Summerville one of the only players to come out with any credibility. One of the most dull matches I have seen for years. Even with the 3 years of Moyes-ball

  • mark wiggins says:

How is he still in the job , Sullivan needs to grow some and sack him

  • Sheik Yerbouti says:

I don’t want to wait any longer.I just can’t see us improving anytime with Lopetegui in charge.
I was at the game and in the first half it looked like that the West Ham players had never met each other before.Improvement in the second half yes but still no great shakes.
Summerville definitely our best player on the day.

    • Hammeroo says:

      “… no great shakes.”

Does that include you, Shake Yerbouti?

    • Matt says:

JLo finally knows what we knew already that Summerville has to start week in week out!

It was another dire uninspiring performance with yet again no improvement to our play.

Time to stop this circus and get rid of the 🤡

  • Jellied Eel says:

Er, they already have fallen behind the teams above them.
