Lopetegui Not Going Anywhere Anytime Soon

West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui is safe for the immediate future, Claret & Hugh can reveal.

Last night, C&H’s Sean Whetstone spoke directly with a top source at The London Stadium and asked whether Lopetegui’s West Ham job was under threat should he lose to the Cherries. The Hammers insider said the Irons gaffer has “some leeway because there are long odds against winning.”

West Ham went on to draw the game 1-1 at The Vitality Stadium, but the comments did give an insight into what is expected from Lopetegui. The suggestion is that the Hammers boss is safe as long as he doesn’t lose to sides West Ham are expected to beat.

Presumably, most would expect Brighton, Villa, Man City, Fulham, and Liverpool to all do well against West Ham, meaning the crunch games are really against Southampton on Boxing Day, followed by fixtures against Palace and Leicester in January and February, respectively.

Reading between the lines, I can only surmise the Hammers hierarchy are hoping for the best, but if West Ham stay where they are in the league, Lopetegui will be safe.

J-Lo will come good. He needs time and a striker who knows how to score goals and things will change. Bet you a £1…

  • Mike says:

The Czech Sphinx has just bought Royal Mail. Perhaps he could use the small change to buy out Sullivan, Brady and their cronies. Sullivan is a right tosser and this club will go nowhere as long as he is running the show. Took us away from the Boleyn in a vanity project that is the soulless bowl , the London Stadium. Hollow promises of top five, Champions League etc. Bullshit, For God’s sake Sullivan f*** off and take your cronies with you.

  • John Ayris says:

His appointment was a mistake and we’re compounding the mistake.

  • Dave says:

    Who knew? 🤣🤣🤣

Sullivan sticks with his woeful choice of coach and keeps faith in him.

So pleased we found out this amazing revelation from Sean’s “top source”

  • Malcolmf says:

Manager needs to go now and get in Potter a coach that the team understands come on Sullivan act now before we drop into the relegation zone

  • Beyond caring now says:

    Joke club…..
We always will be with Sullivan running the show.

  • Devo's Tash says:

So we left Upton Park to qualify for the Champions League, but are now happy with finishing mid table.

  • Hammerry says:

The results are important and we should be playing to win every game regardless of the opposition. Obviously a loss against a team at the top of end of the table is easier to justify than one near the bottom but we’ve nicked points against the top sides on loads of occasions and the manager should be picking the team and tactics to give us the best chance of victory. I am all for giving managers a chance but it seems foolish to give this manager more time when it seems like his tactics, team selection and management isnt working. Hopefully Paqueta’s celebration was a sign of a changing mood in the dressing room but it could be too little, too late and a number of quality players are already looking for an exit. I hope I’m wrong.

Bang on JB15 – never heard anything so pathetic in alll my life ! Expecting to lose against Brighton and Fulham, what’s all that about???
Although we were never in doubt, shows what these cretins who call themselves a board really think of the fans – I hope it really kicks off soon if that is the only way to communicate with these tossers !
    Sullivan, you a******e

  • Tezzard says:

    Very ambitious 😅.

  • Ray says:

There is no point in having ambitions that you know your manager cannot fulfil, and nobody has the ba**s to change anything. Just carry on winning the odd trophy once every forty years, nobody here expects any more than that so why try.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

If they stick with Floppy, January window could be interesting as a lot of the players seem discontented. If he gives the kids more game time like Scarles potentially Orford and Kasey that will get the fans onside a bit more. If we are going to endure this rubbish then at least let us see a glimpse of the future and why not Guilherme too poor kid is stuck on the bench, is never going to improve without game time.

What a sad bunch you are throwing insults at people doesn’t mean you’re going to get what you want.
I bet you had the same opinion about Moyes Bilic Allerdyce Pelagrine Pardew so the list goes on.
    Have a nice Xmas 🎅

No I’m just a football fan , who pays to see every home game and I stay to the end of every game so I think I’ve earned the right to quibble , I don’t boo or expect too much but I do want to be entertained, , which isn’t happening at the moment , champions league , championships beckoning, I would like to see mark noble have a crack at managing the team, someone with built in passion?

  • FredK says:

What a sad post this is and highlights exactly where we are with the West Ham board. Are we now admitting defeat to clubs above as acceptable? Where is the heart? Where is the ambition? Where is the respect for the fans who travel to watch and support no matter what? The manager is the wrong choice, the players don’t respect him to the point that Todibo allegedly hit him, which I find disgraceful,no manager deserves that and ego’s rule the dressing room. We need a manager who demands respect from his players, unfortunately Jlo is not that man. But we all know nothing is going to happen,we are just going to plod along and wind down a cr*p season.

  • JB15 says:

What a pathetic, short term way to run a football club. Absolutely embarrassing. He’s either the right manager, or he isn’t… it’s as simple as that. Not losing to Palace, Leicester and Southampton as the bench mark to keep a job is ridiculous.

I’ve said it before, but this club will never, ever be successful with David Sullivan running it.

    • FredK says:

100% agree. I’m embarrassed that some 5ft porn peddler in a ex Army & Navy outfit has anything to do with my club. ⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️

  • Morty says:

After changing the manager and bringing in 9 new players I am sure the Board would settle for a mid table placing

  • Jellied Eel says:

Good. A bit of continuity wouldn’t come amiss. Permanent revolution is a bad look. I admire Sullivan’s refusal to go down the knee jerk response route in response to the ravings of keyboard warriors. It’s his money, it’s his choice.

  • Darkhorse says:

Maybe Sullivan has got it wrong but maybe not, time will tell.
Lopetegui got it right with his starting line up against Bournemouth. Players gave 100% resulting in an improved performance. Still finding about the players I believe Lopetegui has come to the conclusion that Ings , is not good enough for the premiership . ( rightly so) and maybe he has had a word with the squad warning them that anyone who does not wish to give 100% has no place on the field

  • Wayne says:

    What sad lack of ambition

  • Mick Bering says:

Sullivans W ham are his team but money is hes god SAY NO MORE

  • Ted says:

Sullivan will definitely try and hang on till the end of the season till he gets rid of this tosser
The man just can’t seem to accept that his got it wrong!

  • Phil Baker says:

So the hierarchy at Westham are fine with the team trying to hang onto 14 place . Sullivan will not admit making a mistake unless Westham are in the relegation spots . What a drag the rest of the season will be . Some of the teams below Westham are getting results now and will rise leaving Westham in a precarious position near the end of the season when it’s too late to sack the coach and avoid relegation

    • Essexiron42 says:

I cannot believe that the bar can be set so low to avoid admitting the wrong hiring decision was made. It seems they have moved from 5 must win games to the complete opposite and he can, survive just by beating the likes of Southampton, Leicester and Palace!

Bournemouth have done remarkably well this season but even their own supporters would surely acknowledge that they have overachieved on their own expectations. To set out saying basically we don’t expect a win is a disgrace if true and lays bare the fact that the best we can hope for is mid-table and no ambition to qualify for Europe with this approach. What was the point of spending £140 million this season just to avoid defeat against so called better teams? Surely the source must be wrong as we would have no chance of keeping our best players and competing for European competition? Show some bloody ambition and pride in our history and the future of our club or sell up to someone who will!
