Julen Lopetegui spoke to the press ahead of West Ham’s Premier League game against Manchester United on Sunday.
The Hammers’ head coach appeared reasonably upbeat despite the pressure, though he was understandably guarded and at one point refused to answer if he’d welcome José Mourinho’s return to English football.
However, it was his response to a question on his team’s inconsistency that is likely to attract the most attention. Lopetegui attributed West Ham’s patchy form to “playing against different teams,” which raised some eyebrows, as it seemed an odd explanation.
Given that the Irons’ boss has admitted to some things getting lost in translation, he may not have meant it literally. Speaking before the game, Lopetegui tried to clarify West Ham’s inconsistency: “We are playing against different teams, and each match has had key moments. We have to try to be more consistent and play better. I can envision how this team can grow and what it can achieve, and we are working to make this a reality as soon as possible.
“I am confident we are going to win matches, and we are fully focused on this.”
He has no place at our club, I don’t want to comment on his ridiculous press conference with all the meaningless answers to questions and conversational padding trying to sound like he knows what he’s doing, for sure.
Absolute genius! Good to see all that research on West Ham prior to accepting the offer, was not wasted.
This is all so depressing, so far. As said, £200 spent & nothing to show for it; & looking likely that we never will have anything to show for it. Something positive has got to happen- & soon; otherwise we will be in a complete mess – not for the first time !
☆ Oh boy ! • Why has EPL made football so complicated? So now where do we find a league where you DONT play different teams ???
☆ Phew ! • Thanks Mr Lopt for saying= “You are gonna win matches”. Wow, what a relief. And here I was thinking that that was why WH spent 200mil on new players for you ???
