One of the managers linked as a potential successor to Julen Lopetegui at West Ham has expressed his pride at being linked with the job as Hammers gaffer.

Al-Ahli coach Matthias Jaissle, who was reportedly on West Ham’s shortlist should Lopetegui have been dismissed, is currently making waves in the Saudi Pro League. Despite the speculation, Lopetegui’s position is secure for now, as the Hammers ride an unbeaten run of four games and sit 11th in the Premier League table. However, upcoming fixtures against Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Fulham could reignite pressure on the Spaniard.

Jaissle, 36, regarded as one of football’s brightest young managerial talents, gained recognition after earning promotion with Al-Ahli in his first season. Reflecting on the West Ham links, the German ex-Red Bull Salzburg boss said:

“Being mentioned in relation to West Ham or any high-profile job is obviously flattering. It makes me proud to be linked with top clubs like this.

“But I don’t focus on rumours like this. I have an agent who deals with opportunities, and my full focus is on Al-Ahli. This is the only job I can currently control and influence, and I am committed to achieving something great here.”

Graham Potter remains favourite for the Irons top job and is reportedly waiting in the winds. That said, how long the former Chelsea and Brighton boss will wait is uncertain, particularly given Lopetegui’s upturn in fortunes.

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.
