Lopetegui Sack Update

Image for Lopetegui Sack Update

After West Ham’s disastrous performance at Leicester and 3-1 humbling against one of the worst defences future in the Premier league, many had assumed that Lopetegui had reached the end of the line and the infamous ‘corner flag’ picture along with the press release confirming parting company would have appeared on the club web site by now.

However, we hear that no such decision has yet been made and we believe -according to exWHUemployee– that a board meeting is due to take place today at which the future of Julen Lopetegui will ‘be discussed’ – but it is possible that these discussions, apparently, could go on over the next few days.

Whether that is simply management speak for wanting to try and get the succession sorted and the ink dry on a new contract first – who knows. West Ham do have history of getting everything aligned before firing a Manager in the past, if memory serves me right. So quite possibly there is ‘a lot going on’ behind the scenes!

We can’t think of anyone outside the boardroom who’d need to ‘discuss’ Lopetegui’s future after a pretty disastrous run of games  this season that have included losses of 5-1, 3-1, 4-1, 3-0 and 5-2. After £140 million spend the club has gone backwards and currently sit 14th in the Premier league just 6 points above the relegation zone.

You only have to look how Brighton played their football, under Graham Potter, or watch the latest Brentford team under Thomas Franke. And there you have the obvious choices. I’ll take either one.

  • William Butler says:

Just get Thomas Franke or Graham Potter in, at least they do get their teams to play attractive football

  • Neil Down Under says:

I love the game, but I’m no expert.
I was excited at the appointment of Pellegrini, grateful to Moyse, and got excited but the appointment of Loppy (so obviously not an expert).

I was a bit concerned though, when Nolan was let go.
I understand new managers wanting their own coaching teams around them, but it made sense to me to have someone who knew the players and could advise during transition (even if it were only for a season).

Whoever takes over, please for the love of the gods, put a backbone into this team. Communicate clear ideas.

And for the love of the same gods, Sully, get it done soon or face half if the team wanting away from the club in the summer.
For an astute businessman to continue with buying high and selling low, our assets (players) as we have done for seasons now. Living off of the sales of just a few home grown players is not good!

No one believe expects instant success, but get someone in who can clearly build towards a solid, successful future.

  • Ian says:

Only just learned how to pronounce his name let alone understand what he says in his interviews how can the players understand…can we not have someone who at least can communicate his idea’s

  • Rob says:

The board should now sack him, they should have a manager already to go. That they should have done at the international break. So why the wait does not make sense why nothing has happend yet.

  • Phil Baker says:

Because Sullivan was good at making money , like all very rich guys he assumes that he can do everything well . Clearly he’s just an amateur when it comes to football as well as being way to old . Van Nistleroy implemented a solid tactical plan for Man United immediately and he’s done the same for Leicester in two days but 6 months on and LOSEpetegui is lost . 11 players running around like headless chickens and of course getting upset with the big cock himself . There’s no hope and the players know it . SACK him now already .

  • David says:

Lopetegui.is a broken man no. idea how to pick a team the confidence has gone from the likes of bowen Antonio , he plays max Kilman every game who can’t defend play the over him through him and he’s caught flat footed so basically the manager hasn’t a clue he must be blind he should have been sacked pre season that when I looked at west ham friendly new out come

  • Chris says:

Putting out a B side against Leicester shows all you need to know about him. The quality we had on the bench should have been on from the start and taken off as required
    HUGE IRONY
GRAHAM POTTER WAS A PUNDIT FOR PRIME LAST NIGHT

  • Annette Markham says:

I cant help but wonder Why it is taking so long AND why so many of the new signings want to leave It cant just be JL Promises were made that have obviously not been kept which is only down to 1 man He should go too Where the term pearl came from is beyond me

  • merlin1066 says:

The time has come surely.16 matches in total still no clear identity on style of play.11 starters changes every match.the defence after 2 clean sheets is an absolute shambles again.we just have no idea what we are going to get from the moment they walk on the pitch.he could have bought himself some time i feel if he had gambled and started Fullkrug and Summerville last night instead of slinging them on when we were chasing the game as a decent striker would have had a field day but he dithered again.topped off with suggestions he had a bust up with Todibo on Saturday.it is a huge mess and needs a complete rethink from a fresh visionary manager because to me it looks like he just pulls the names from a hat and says just do what you want to the players.such a high line especially against Vardy who has made a career out of playing off defenders shoulders and running through.did he do any homework on that ?we were up against it after 2 minutes through basic managerial errors of judgement.

  • Rob says:

What’s to discuss? He hasn’t got the team playing for him, he is loosing the dressing room, had a string of poor results and performances and from what I see and the pundits are saying gets the game plan woefully wrong more often than not! Any other club would have sacked him this morning and put interime boss in charge until it gets sorted.

  • Annette Markham says:

The sooner the better in my opinion gone from reasonable to far worse but i have to wonder how much on top of this is the summer signings chosen by the egotistical mr Snider

    • MeanwhileInKent says:

I think you love conspiracy theories, fake news, disinformation and propaganda found online.

    • Tin Hat Dan says:

Think the only egotistical snide is Sullivan tbh

    • Mark Wilson says:

Sullivan should have what’s in the best interests of the club in mind, not how much we have to pay this dud in termination fees. Total dereliction of duty from the chairman

  • Cubby says:

Dildo Dave’s eyesight must be damaged from watching his own porn if he hasn’t seen enough. Loopy is not fit for purpose. Should never have got the job . Strieden hasn’t actually been instrumental in signing one decent player and he should go as well

  • Dave says:

Someone said Tim to choose the manager.
This bloke has wasted millions in poor signings , which is half the reason we’re in a mess.

    • The Wiser Dave says:

How many 100’s of millions has Sully wasted?

You want to return to Sully using his preferred agents with players like Ings, Zouma, Haller, Scammscca, Vlasic, JWP 🤣🤣🤣

  • Richard Abery says:

This is the first time I want Sully to leave with Loopo.
We need a manager that understands football and could get the squad to play properly.

  • Magnum says:

If we had beaten Leicester 6-1 as the stats suggest we should have done would we still have wanted him out and I firmly believe the answer would have been YES so based on that and the fact we embarrassingly lost a game we dominated my 3 wishes are

    1. Hurry up have the board meeting and put us all out of our misery
    2. Appoint the right man (Sergio Conceicao)
    3. Build upon the possession and shots we are enjoying but add tactical awareness, discipline and the right team selection

So simple so stop dithering Mr Sullivan please

    • Dave says:

      Couldn’t agree more!

Winning last night wouldn’t have changed the fact that JLo is not fit for purpose.

The fact we lost and conceded 3 to a relegation favourite speaks volumes.

Make the right decision Sullivan and then remove yourself from the interview process.

  • Richard Abery says:

This is the first time I want Sully to leave with Loopo.
We need a manager that understands football and could get the squad to play propperly.

    • Matt says:

We need Tim to chose the next manager as Sully obviously doesn’t understand football with another woeful coach pick.

Any business owner with any sense employs people with better knowledge in their area of operations to drive growth and commercial success.

      • Annette Markham says:

I think we need a new tim too

        • rollercoaster hammer says:

🤣😂🤣 hilarious! when i clicked on “reply” i got a giant pic of a ring on a finger in an advertisement. hilarious because i was just about to tell you that we all know that you’re not real and are just a “ring-in”. someone’s got a very brown tongue, methinks 🤔

  • Peter Bendall says:

How much more evidence does the Board need . They. Should all go and take this idiot with them . They are not fit to run our great club and bring nothing but ridicule. What do you expect from a porn pedlar .

    • Dave says:

Birmingham fans agree. Enough is enough, wise up and protect your investment and let Tim end the madness.

      • Gary lyon says:

Tim likes to spend money so spend it and get new manager potter was good at brighton and not bad at chelsea

  • Tom says:

Why wait for a board meeting to discuss the managers position apart from the Newcastle game have they not seen the shambolic performances this season. Playing too high a line with no pace in midfield or defense. Every game changes in the defense and midfield no settled team. No organisation, no identity, no game management, no game plan. Playing players out of position. What have the board and Sullivan in particular been watching. I think keeping the man hanging on while saying he’s got 2 games to save he’s game nonsense is mental cruelty and wrong. Do the right thing sack him now for he’s mental health and let Tim do he’s job as DOF not letting your two favourite agents in Salthouse and Mendes or Brady interfere with the selection. Also do everyone a favour Sullivan sell up and go. You’re an embarrassment who’s turn this club into a laughing stock.

    • Matt says:

Only club with a Director of Football who can’t do his job without interference from a clueless owner.

      Sullivan is the problem.

If Tim interviews and sounds out potential next candidates for the role we will know recruitment is aligned and hopefully Salthouse & Mendes won’t be advising Sully.

  • Matt says:

    What is there to discuss?

    1) Are we progressing ❌
    2) Are performances improving ❌
    3) Will he turn things around ❌
    4) Is he out of his depth ✅
    5) Do we get rid ✅
    6) Will attendances drop ✅
    7) Can we get a better coach ✅

It doesn’t take days it takes minutes to assess this 🤡

  • Mogg says:

Starting AWB at left back. No Emmerson. No summerville. Danny Ing’s starting (should of been taken off before halftime). Moving Bowen centre forward when he had been soo threatening on the right..?

It should be as clear as a blue sky to anyone that this man has no idea what he is doing. Whether or not to sack him shouldn’t need debating after last night.

  • Ted Fenton says:

Loppy showed again last night that he hasn’t got any idea how to set up a team. Leicester are a poor team with only one way of playing. Defend deep and play over the top for Vardy. To play a high line against them was madness
    Put Noble in as caretaker

  • Pete says:

SULLIVAN OUT!!!!! !!!!! Let Tim do his job and STFU!!!!

    • Matt says:

Tim needs to have the handcuffs taken off and rescue our season and pride.

Sullivan is making us the biggest banter club in the Premiership.

  • mark wiggins says:

Come on the only decision is to sack him , let’s get on with it dithering David Sullivan . It’s in front of our eyes loopy needs to go now.

    • Matt says:

100% no way should we let Wolves fans laud it over us like Leicester did last night.

We are a laughing stock and lack leadership on and off the pitch.

      Sullivan is clueless.

  • John Ayris says:

They have to hold a board meeting that’s procedure but surely practically there’s nothing to decide. Results like last night will have us in relegation trouble.

Leicester allowed 31 attempts on goal, our most ever in any premier league game yet we still lost 3-1. Other teams would have scored goals galore and not conceded three is how dire things are.

  • LORD ROBERT VENOUR says:

Waste of a board time sully still gonna keep the waste of space wont payout money to sack him and definitely won’t spend composation to get a new manager

  • D.f.butcher says:

Let’s face it we could carry on without a manager, I’m sure the players would sort themselves out?

    • Martin Treasure says:

I would bet they could beat wolves without one!

      • Paul Taylor says:

I had absolutely no interest last night but checked the scoreline after 10 minutes! We kept a clean sheet for 2 minutes, yes, 2 whole minute’s if that isn’t gross negligence then I confess I don’t know what is. Enough is enough, it took long enough to get rid of Moyes, Lopetegui should have been sacked this morning without a shadow. I’m personally sick and tired of foreign managers being appointed by Sullivan my own preference would be Potter as he coped admirably with all the nonsense at Chelsea but what do I know, oh yes, more than Sullivan and the Board obviously, clueless bunch of ****ers!

        • FredK says:

          Couldn’t agree more.
Last night was the last straw for me,Jlo went into panic mode…throwing players on left right and centre, totally clueless. It is obvious that he doesn’t know how to set his team up. Ings should have gone off after 35 mins, putting Bowen down the middle when he was running riot down the wing. Fullkrug being thrown on after such a long injury, for what? Paqueta continues his nightmare yet still comes on. This is a game we should have won. All we needed to do was pen them in and keep it tight at the back for any breakaways. I hate to see anyone get the sack but I’m done with him. Potter would suit me.

        • Boleyn Boy says:

The thing is they couldn’t even manage 2mins, the goal was scored after 98 seconds!

        • Paul S says:

Potter didn’t cope admirably at Chelsea, they were 11th in the table when he was sacked

      • Matt says:

We definitely would beat Wolves if Hoeness was appointed. No more free and available coaches.

Time to act with ambition and competence at least once during your miserable tenure Sullivan!

    • Annette Markham says:

AND probably do a far better job than with him at the helm
But Steindten has not really done his job either I personally think they should BOTH be gone
Whether you liked Moyes or not he truly had S.D number
I never wanted JL but TS as not given him anything to work with (with all the money spent) He bought maybe 3 that were worth the money
