West Ham United are willing to allow Flynn Downes to leave, according to numerous reports, as Southampton continue to push for a permanent transfer. Russell Martin could be successful in his transfer pursuit thanks to Julen Lopetegui’s transfer plans.
Lopetegui is understood to have informed Downes that he is free to discuss a permanent transfer to the Saints if they meet West Ham’s asking price, which is believed to be a surprisingly low £12m.
Hammers fan Downes, 25, spent the 2023/24 season in the south of England, featuring 33 times in their promotion-securing season back to the Premier League. On the back of his impressive performances, the St Mary’s Stadium outfit want to sign him on a permanent deal.
Whilst in East London playing for the Irons, the central midfielder found game time hard to come by, having featured just 35 times most of which were as substitute.
Downes is set to face stiff competition for midfield places next season with the return of Freddie Potts and Lewis Orford, who is also looking to step up. However, sanctioning the deal may not be the most sensible move considering Manchester United’s interest in Edson Alvarez.
It could be prudent for West Ham to wait and see what happens with the Mexican, who did little to dissuade interest from the Manchester club when asked about the transfer.
F*ck me at this rate we won’t have a team left to worry about, let’s hope our new Brazilian can play all positions cause at this rate he will be the only player on the pitch, unless he’s destined for the under 23 side?
Southampton are desprete to sigan Downes 20 m or keep him
Downes has to be a £15ml player at least .what can you buy for £15 million now?
Even more reason to hold on for a while if Alverez is toing to be out for some time with injury. (That also may put of Man Utd for a while)
Mark Noble is available after resting for a season.
Sell prowse he won’t fit in anyway
Way to cheep. Why let him go? We’re going to spend more than that to find a replacement, he’s young and hungry to prove himself. Let him step up for a season with squad rotation and he could be a good midfielder if not sell him on for a better price
It was a commodity they wanted and at today’s prices should have been at least £15m.
WHU are well known for their haggling but this is one that got away.
Max Kilman at £25m was never going to happen (nice try).
We’ve put out all the wrong vibes and Wolves now have the whip hand, pay up or move on.
After what looked a healthy start to transfers it’s starting to stutter.
Totally agree mate in for every player and his dog but never get much over the line
Sullivan 12 million how he is a billionaire
God only knows . It certainly isn’t for his football acumen .
