Lopetegui Toying With Bowen Position Shift

West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui may be considering a tactical shift, deploying Jarrod Bowen as a traditional number 9. This move could have significant and exciting implications for the team’s attacking lineup.

Jarrod Bowen has primarily played as a winger for West Ham . However, his versatility allows him to play in multiple positions. There have been some speculation that Lopetegui may be exploring the possibility of utilising Bowen’s skills as an out and out striker.

Moving Bowen to the number 9 would open up playing time for Crysencio Summerville on the left wing; as we have seen, Summerville is a talented young player who has shown promise in his first few starts for the Irons

With Kudus in the number 10 role, Paqueta, Alvarez, and Soler could form a formidable midfield. This combination would provide a solid foundation for the team’s attacks.

A forward lineup featuring Bowen as a striker, Kudus on the right wing, Summerville on the left, Paqueta in the number 10 role, and Alvarez and Soler in midfield would pose more than a dangerous threat  to opposing defences.

Sounds good, doesn’t it? Antonio & Fullkrug might not think so.

Liverpool have Salah, Diogo Jota, Gakpo, Dias and Darwin Nunez as 5 attackers who play across the frontline – perhaps we could
do something similar with Bowen, Kudus, Somerville, Fullkrug, Ings etc

  • David Moyes says:

Don’t worry about our new number 9 summer signing then Fullkrug ??
We saw last season that Bowen can do a job there if needed through injuries, suspensions etc but he is not effective as much in that position.
He is far more of a threat in that wide position where he can use his pace and cut inside causing problems.
I’d be more excited seeing Fullkrug coming into that 9 role with Bowen on the right and Somerville on the left, pace and trickery on both sides….Kudus in the 10 role in the middle with take your pick from Paqueta/Soler,and Alvarez/ Rodriguez centrally

Bowen has just done this for England in the eight minutes allowed to him at the end of Ireland match when Cane was taken off. Managed to get a shot in.

    He can do this.

Has this been reported elsewhere and you’re relaying to the C&H audience or have you been told this by an in the know?
Is your article saying easy come easy go with the outlay to sign Füllkrug on a rather long contract?
I don’t remember seeing an answer to a direct question from you as Martin and Gonzo often do but it would be nice to understand your article better.

So which is it, Kudus at No. 10 or right wing ??
    🙄

  • Jeeps says:

There is now a multiple of players who can play across front line.
Bowen’s established position is mainly right wing and taking ball to bye line.
Kudus has stated his preference of playing in a central position where he can do most damage.
What a wonderful problem for JLo but keeping players happy is a problem in itself.
He’s been given the troops let’s see if he can build an army.
