Manchester City vs West Ham Preview

Julen Lopetegui has described Jarrod Bowen’s absence due to a foot fracture as an opportunity for others to step up and prove their worth.

Frankly, it’s exactly what you’d expect the West Ham boss to say ahead of a daunting clash at The Etihad. However, make no mistake—the loss of the Hammers’ captain is a significant blow to Lopetegui’s already fragile tenure in the hot seat.

While Bowen hasn’t been at his scintillating best this season, his solid form has often been enough to rescue the Spaniard from tricky situations.

The question remains: who exactly does Lopetegui expect to ‘step up and be counted’? All eyes are on Mohammed Kudus, who is likely to slot in on the right. Crysencio Summerville seems a natural choice for the left flank, though Lopetegui’s penchant for tactical surprises could see Emerson, Carlos Soler, or even Lucas Paquetá deployed in an unconventional role.

Regardless of the line-up, Lopetegui faces a colossal challenge against compatriot Pep Guardiola. Yet, the West Ham boss remained optimistic when addressing Bowen’s injury:

“It’s true that Jarrod is our captain and one of our big players, but we have to be able to find a solution.

This is the moment for the other players to show that they are ready to help us, and that their answer is going to be good.

We are looking for the shortest possible recovery time for Jarrod, but in the same way, we believe in the other players in the squad, who will be looking to take advantage of their opportunity.”

Of course, wishing for someone to seize the moment and actually seeing it happen may be two very different things.

There’s only one ball. Get it in the back of their net.

It is an opportunity but gotta wonder what he will do with it this time, nothing surprises me at this point. Half expect cresswell at RM and kudus in goal , Ings up front alone and Summerville on the bench…

As John Ayris says, the way we stand off and let the opposition have pot shots at our goal is unacceptable, was exactly same under Moyes last season.
Until we get someone in who knows what they’re doing and addresses this, we’ll continue to get spanked. At the moment you can be a very average team to score 3/4 against us.
How Sullivan and the rest of the Munsters have continued to employ this no hoper of a manager is completely beyond me and is taking the p**s out of the fans.

Bowen out is not the issue. The issue is the number of chances that we present the opposition, until that is dramatically reduced we could have Haaland up front and still lose.

I do not see Lopetegui addressing that is the main reason I believe he should be sacked. I can see us losing a number of games that are coming up against better teams starting with todays game.

I see another 5-0 drubbing coming along. I really can’t understand how there is such a gulf between us and several teams in the Premier League. It’s shades of the Pellegrini era where we’d concede 5 goals against City.

Look at Brentford – they have almost an entire team out injured but still took the lead against Arsenal before losing 3-1 but were the better team in the first half. Show some fight and pride in our club, give some of our youngsters a chance and you never know. Man City have struggled this season and if the players step up we may just Nick a point.

There is No doubt that Bowen is a huge loss, but I agree , players need to step up and earn there place in the team
