Another Julen Lopetegui press conference, this time in advance of West Hams’ dubious pleasure of travelling to Newcastle United under lights on Monday night without crocked Niclas Fullkrug or suspended Mohammed Kudus. If not a ‘must win’ then ‘must not get spanked’ game, it seems only the board at West Ham are expecting anything other than ‘pain’.
Lopetegui himself insists on trotting out the ‘positivity platitudes’ that say nothing about the squad or a plan to rescue performances, and everything about his ‘survivalist’ mindset right now. Of course they’re going to be ‘hard at work’ for a ‘difficult match’.
But when West Ham’s head coach refers back to the Everton game, (which, remember, Alan Shearer remarked was the worst game he’d sever seen in the Premier League) he needs to realise exactly what he is saying: “We were pleased with the second half against Everton, even though we were disappointed we didn’t score the goal that we thought we deserved. We looked more confident than the first half, and we are looking to keep some things from that performance…”
So, no goals against one of the worst performing teams in the Premier League. At home. In front of 60,000 West Ham fans in a game which was ‘must win’. And he was pleased with the second half?
Really? Let’s ask the 62,000 – odd who were at the game. Anyone pleased with the second half?
Let’s be honest, the whole 90 minutes against Everton was an utterly dismal performance.
If he is still in denial, and ‘looking to keep some things from that performance’ then he really does have desperately low standards for a hugely talented but unfocused squad of players crying out for cohesive coaching and direction.
Not his fault i know but i have just seen the press conference and Lopetegui’s spanish is so thick it is hard to understand what he is saying.Equally he cannot understand the english journalists as a lot of the time he is using a interpreter.
When he is on the touchline waving his hands about and shouting probably the players haven’t a scooby what he’s on about?
West Ham have nether been great going “up north” on a cold evening midweek game and i don’t expect this to be any different especially with this manager.
Big shout to all the Hammer fans making this long journey..
Is JL on some hard drugs the game against Everton is by far one of the worst I have ever seen as for taking the positives from the second half I would like to know what they were you would think that on match of the day apologising for having to show clips from the game that he would be shown the door and what they did show was no where near how bad the rest of the game was and the board thinks we are going to beat Newcastle on Monday night they are having a laugh thanks to Sullivan not taking the action that other clubs would have taken means he is as bad as JL and has to be held accountable when we get trashed by Newcastle
SCAMpetegui has been paid off after every one of his terminated contracts in the last five years and so I wonder if his coaching strategy is to deliberately lose . His coaching has been so childishly inept that I can’t imagine his tactics are for real . Unless Newcastle and Arsenal forget their shooting boots ( like Man United ) , expect Westham to concede 6 to 10 goals in those two games and still Sullivan won’t sack LOSEpetegui because of the extra pay off required.
Put Loopy Lou out of his misery. If he was dog we would have been kind and put him down not note suffer any more
Moyes would have defended the result but said we must do better
Pre match press conferences are a complete waste of time. Every one is the same –
“it’s a tough game, difficult place to come to, no such thing as an easy game in the Premier League, we have a doubt about one or two blah, blah, blah” more banal cliches plus a few “for sure, for sures” thrown in by Loppy Loser.
Post match could be more interesting with questions like, “why are you such a terrible manager”, why are you so open to Ale House Sunday League long balls down both wings, why do you pick Thomas Soucek and Rodriguiz as your midfield pivot.”
“Because I am a s##t manager and a f### wit for sure”
The Everton game was a disgrace, it was appalling and widely touted as the worst premier league game this season, give the crowd their money back. Were there any positives from it ? I don’t recall any, even a clean sheet in a nil nil is dubious when it’s against Everton. More worrying is our away form, we leaked three at Forest and four at Tottenham while only scoring one. With the news earlier that if sacked we only need to pay Lopetegui week by week for eighteen months or until he finds re-employment I really do not understand why he’s not gone already.
