West Ham United are bracing for a defensive overhaul this summer transfer window, with new boss Julen Lopetegui demanding reinforcements, according to The Times.

Lopetegui, who takes the reins following a disappointing season that saw West Ham concede a whopping 74 goals, has prioritised shoring up the backline.

The defensive clearout has already begun with the release of Angelo Ogbonna upon contract expiry. Injury-prone Kurt Zouma is deemed surplus to requirements, while Nayef Aguerd, despite a strong end to last season, has apparently requested a transfer and is attracting interest from Saudi clubs.

West Ham has already secured the services of promising Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme for £25.5 million. Additionally, the Hammers are aiming to finalise deals for four new players before pre-season kicks off. Goalkeeper Wes Foderingham is set to join on a free transfer after completing his medical.

The Times report highlights the defensive deficiencies Lopetegui has inherited. West Ham might need further reinforcements at full-back, striker, attacking midfield, and even a backup goalkeeper, in addition to the central defenders already being addressed.

Nayef Aguerd, who arrived from Rennes in 2022 for a significant transfer fee, has struggled with injuries and inconsistent form. West Ham is open to offers, particularly from the Saudi Pro League, for the unsettled defender.

A significant defensive overhaul appears inevitable for West Ham under Lopetegui’s leadership. The confirmed departures and identified transfer targets suggest a busy summer window for the Hammers as they aim to solidify their backline for the upcoming season.

You have to question the people running this site for the rubbish they spout makes me think they are just sullivan cronies here to spout rubbish about who we are trying to sign instead of giving us positive news, makes you wonder if they are west ham fans at all. I pwrsonally think they just spout the same old bull**** to make it seem like sullivan has ambition and to keep themselves in his good books.

Just regurgitating the same old speculative and repetitive garbage. We trust in Tim. Just let us know when deals are over the line rather than build our hopes and dreams only to see them fade and die!
