Julen Lopetegui’s interest in Girona midfielder Aleix García could spell bad news for James Ward-Prowse. Lopetegui hopes to persuade García to come to the London Stadium, with the club prepared to offer more money than other clubs, and is pressing for the Hammers to prioritise the transfer.
It may seem like putting two and two together and getting five, but the García leaks have given more validity to last week’s rumours that the Hammers head coach was ready to move on from Ward-Prowse.
I was initially sceptical that Lopetegui would sanction the sale of Ward-Prowse. After all, he had indicated that everyone would get a chance in pre-season. Additionally, the former Saints player is a safe yet unadventurous passer of the ball, which is something we understand Lopetegui finds appealing.
However, if we are also to believe that Flynn Downes, Freddie Potts, and Lewis Orford are all set to get their chance next season, then something doesn’t quite fit. It’s clear that Tomas Soucek is unsuited to a possession-based team, but the aggressive pursuit of García is probably bad news for more than just one player.
So, perhaps there is some truth to the idea that Lopetegui is open to offers for Ward-Prowse. Despite the midfielder not being everyone’s cup of tea, he created many chances last season, which will certainly be appealing to a lot of Premier League clubs.
What’s happened to all the other rumours, I thought we needed home grown players?? Sorry but a new Spaniard is NOT home grown!!!
you seem to be increasingly putting 2 and 2 together and getting the wrong answers.
and presenting to us in an old gossipy manner, apart from the lack of respect you obviously are showing towards talented players , don’t you ever think that your readers are tired of your manner of presentation?
Are you on drugs you clown ?Just more crap spun on behalf of The Perv who wants JWP’S wages off the books !NOTHING to do with JLO !He plays possession based football !BYE BYE SOUCEK !!
Aleix García, who just missed out on the superb Spain squad for the Euro’s, is probably the type of player that West Ham needs.
His team Girona was on fire in the LaLiga and was close to shocking Real M and Barca by taking the title.
Garcia of course was one of this team’s superb players. So WH getting him, or coming close is exciting.
Apart from him, the entire midfield soft belly must be seriously strengthened as even weak opponents literally waltzed through our midfield and into our seriously weak centre backs … thus 74 goals against.
And another thing JWP was not the main problem, as he had many times started a high press, with Antonio, Soucek and company happy for him to run his legs off for the team. Dont think the new manager will tolerate the laziness that Moyes and the other over-paid WH players had brought to this team.
Coyi – God bless West Ham

Moyes had all his eggs in a limited amount of players which created problems when it came to rotation.
Same with academy players put them on bench without much use (if any).
Having players doubling up for same areas and giving each other competition is deemed good strategy.
Does cause problems as players believe they should always be first choice if fit.
If new player can be bought plus JWP/Soucek/Downes this will add depth which is something whu has been lacking.
May be not always playing in their prescribed positions but available.
Or perhaps he just wants more than 11 players that are good enough to start and will use a little known tactic called squad rotation 🤔 unknown at WHU in the last 4 to 5 seasons
I can’t see us getting him, but really hope I am wrong as I think he is far better than Soucek and JWP put together……
