According to Nuno Espírito Santo West Ham were going to have ‘a very good week‘ after the long-awaited home victory yesterday in the FA Cup 2 -1 win against championship side Queens Park Rangers.
However in true ‘West Ham Way’ the club has been plunged into a new crisis, mid-transfer window and mid-relegation battle, by the news coming out of the club this morning that Lucas Paquetá wants to leave the club in January.
As reported initially by ExWHUemployee, and confirmed by talksport this morning:

As Claret and Hugh trailed yesterday when revealing the squad for the FA cup encounter, there’s trouble ahead.
The Brazilian has apparently set his heart on a move – most likely back to his homeland despite having a year and a half remaining on his West Ham contract.
This could prove to be a pivotal moment in West Ham’s Premier League survival battle: If Chairman Sullivan gives in to the players wishes, West Ham’s most creative player will disappear just when the Hammers need him the most.
If the Irons hold firm, a disgruntled Paquetá will be no good to West Ham for the last five months of the season: The club has put up with (and paid a handsome salary to) Paquetá in poor form whilst preoccupied for almost two full seasons, throughout his FA enquiry.
Almost a no-win situation for the club. Sell and they’re accused of “cashing in” – keep the player and they’ll likely get a shadow of the man they need to help keep the Irons afloat this season.
I think his excesses more than counter the occasional sublime through ball that results in a goal…
Sell him , hasn’t been at his best for a few seasons, plays when he wants, doesn’t give enough in games, not the player he was when he first arrived, ⚒️ stood by him during his charges and he wants to go ?
To be honest he’s been an absolute lemon of a purchase. The last year he has fallen off a cliff form wise. Sell him on, the team are carrying him
Let him go for top dollar. Even let them pay over 4/5 seasons – that money will come in handy wherever we end up. But NO cheap deals!!!
If rumours are true, club would barely receive an adequate sum. Had always hoped he would use this season to get a shot at a decent euro club come Summer (Juventus, Napoli… or who knows) and leave with club’s blessing and general sigh of relief. Earthy back from his loan (I hope), while Potts/Magassa will be a stronger midfield pairing by then,
I hope these are false rumours. Otherwise hope club can negotiate with him, to sell in June with an arrangement put in place during the season. Avoiding a bidding war to up the sell price and consequently keep player & family hanging around till as late as possible, as agents & clubs haggle over you and play chicken.
Perhaps this is the kind of enticement the club can propose?
This smacks of Sullivan and Brady BS, trying to recover funds they spent, realising too late that Nuno won’t keep them up and trying to deflect blame from their own inadequacies. SPIN, SPIN and spiralling out of the Prem.
Sell him for as much money as we can! He hasn’t showed any loyalty to west ham despite saying he appreciated them supporting him! You would’ve thought that he would have led by example and led the youngsters and the team up the table. Instead he’s seemed uninterested and has been angling for a move whilst still taking his full pay packet.
Paqueta isn’t the player we need for a relegation dogfight and the team has to accommodate his style, which isn’t always helpful. If Spurs want him, the price is £60m minimum. If anyone else wants him, £35m and/or useful swaps to that value and above.
It’s ok letting him go for at least £35m but getting a replacement is going to be a problem.
Nuno has dispensed many of the backup players.
2 new strikers may need time to bed in (or at least one of them).

Good player on his day but not consistent. Every game he’s played this season we may aswell just sent 10 player’s out. He’s just not helped our team we would of been better playing a youth player who run about more and not roll about on floor
He’s the most creative player we’ve got but if he wants out sell him, if you don’t want to be here go. We need players who’ll fight for the shirt not sulking divas. It doesn’t matter how talented he is if he doesn’t want to be here it’ll be like playing with ten men.

his valuation tells you his form, 80m 2 years ago, 35m in the summer and now 25m.
I would make him stay and wait for the summer, they’ll be more clubs with money then. Not a playing decision, purely financial.
That was me who wrote that Dave, here’s what I was told and what I wrote

I understand that the wording of the statement will lead to further speculation that the Brazilian will leave for Spurs in the summer but that is not the intention. That said, Paqueta will leave the club before next season starts and we have been informed that is 100%.”

Sorry, but move a back to Brazil just isn’t going to happen (maybe to another Premier League club?). They wouldn’t be able to afford either the transfer fee or his wages unless the 🤡 did a catastrophic loan deal with us subsiding his wages. The 🤡 might incompetent, but he would realise doing so would end our stay in Premier League and end his reign.

Personally I never rated him and thought we paid well over the odds for him. Having said that, it’s January a notoriously hard time to find the right player, so sell for top dollar. Replacing him may be difficult though, more evidence that loaning out Earthy was a stupid decision

Consideration we don’t have another playmaker in the team would seem like madness unless they have a replacement coming in.

The other thing is. Last week Paqueta’s media team said there is no substance to media claims and he wouldn’t be leaving before the end of the season so wouldn’t be surprised to find the media is generated out of the club to discredit Paqueta and it is them cashing in.

He’s been precious little use for a long time. Despite his undoubted talent he has been more of a liability. Let him go. No loss in my view.
When players want to leave, it’s best to let go as they are more likely to force there way out by not performing, as did
Payet, Sakho, Arnautovic. Rice was an exception.
Let him go, we need as many dependable players as we can for the rest of the season. He’s a liability in my opinion, loses the ball to frequently & gets us in to more trouble than getting us out of trouble. Don’t get me wrong, on his day he is an absolute marvel to watch, however we don’t see it frequently enough. Having watched him first hand after Christmas against Brighton I was even less convinced. Would love to see more of the younger lads coming through who have a lot to learn but would play for the team & the shirt.
We need more than 4 goals along with 2 assists from our ‘star’ player. Add to that the potential for disciplinary issues, he’s a luxury we can’t afford. It just depends how much we can get for him… take £30m maybe? I don’t think he’ll be short of offers of a lift somewhere among West Ham fans. Fickle turncoat.
Probably be lucky to get 25 million. Absolutely gutted he wants to leave now. Was hoping he could find some form and help get us out of the s**t we’re in. If that’s his attitude, then keep him away from first team. And either sell or make him train with the kids. Disgraceful behaviour from a player that’s had the support of club and fans, and this is how he repays us.
I’d personally offload him now, complete ingrate. Showed his true colours when he got himself sent off. Personally, I think the benefit he offers us these days is outweighed by the frequent occasions he puts us in jeopardy.

Let him go. Paquetta as been a luxury West Ham will not miss, liable for many mistakes leading to goals. Not the player we need to survive, often playing with yellow card hanging over his head. No goals, to few assists and just selected for a little piece of magic which very rarely arrives.
It’s not a bombshell – it’s great news. Paqueta performs about once every 5/6 games and he clearly doesn’t want to be here. He doesn’t give enough in terms of goals and assists, and defensively, just seems to get booked.
If we can find a buyer for, say, £40/50m and that allows us to buy a CB or two, a CM or a winger, then great.
A good centre back will win us more points than Paqueta will.

Yes you are right JB15.Without doubt he is talented but only wants to perform when he is in the mood.ie a few games a season.
if possible get rid of him this transfer window otherwise we are going to have one big sulk of a player for the rest of the season and that will be no good for anyone when we are in a relegation fight.
